Job Summary
An Estimator is responsible for evaluating bid specifications and drawings, ensuring that the required data is obtained to successfully bid and win the project. Estimators must aggressively follow-up with subcontractors to ensure that bids are received. Estimators also work with the Project Management teams to follow-up on bids and budgets to close the business.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Create detailed stock length and fabricated cost proposals for customers based on construction contract documents, elevation take-offs, plans & specs, and stock length lists using software estimating tools and other estimating resources
• Assist project management with project start-up as well as pricing assistance throughout the project duration, including change orders and other pricing exercises as required
• Work with internal and external engineering resources to provide structurally reviewed quotes
• Coordinate glass pricing from various glass plants as required
• Follow up on estimates and provide feedback concerning market pricing levels
• Provide consultation, coordination, and assistance to our customers, salesforce and internal personnel
• Maintain detailed and organized records of bid documents, correspondence and other project specific information
• Understand marginal analysis as it compares to the overall marginal contribution of the SF location
Regular and predictable attendance, safely performing tasks, and adherence to all safety policies and procedures are essential functions of this job.
Skills, Knowledge, and Ability Requirements
• To be considered for the Estimator position, the following conditions are preferred but not required:
• Minimum of 5 years prior experience estimating mid-size glazing projects from architectural drawings and specifications
• Ability to read, interpret, & understand architectural drawings and specifications and provide detailed take-offs and estimates that incorporate different building envelope solutions
• Experience using computer software estimating programs to prepare estimates of aluminum glazing systems & their applications
• Strong understanding of glass, composite metal panels, and other infill options as well as their applications
• Strong geometry & math skills
• Organized, self-starter with the ability to handle numerous projects, phones, prioritize workload & work with minimal supervision
• Must be able to communicate effectively & maintain professional conduct; excellent written & verbal communication skills
• Autocad/Revit experience and skillset a plus
• Need to have good working knowledge of fabrication and installation in order to have good understanding of customer needs
• Prior estimating knowledge preferred
The salary for this position is $60K up to 75K yearly.
