Description:
The Grand Rapids Mission Leader provides leadership as part of the local leadership team(s) and/or the Health Service Area (HSA) leadership team, ensuring the successful integration, assessment and on-going development of mission in all of the ministries' activities, decisions and strategies. The Mission Leader is responsible for the implementation of Mission activities and Mission Essential Services, in alignment with System-level Mission Integration strategies, operational plans and priority objectives, including formation for all colleagues, ethics and implementation of the Promoting Catholic Identity assessment program (PCI). In addition, the Mission Leader collaborates with the Spiritual Care Manager to ensure the full integration of chaplaincy within the ministry.

The Mission Leader reports directly to the Mission Strategy Partner (MSP) in the Administrative Service Area and indirectly to HSA CEOs, ministry President(s) or Administrator(s).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

1. Knows, understands, incorporates, and demonstrates the Trinity Health Mission, Vision, and Core Values in behaviors, practices, and decisions.

2. Facilitates the integration of the Mission and Core Values in all entities and among all colleagues within the local ministry(ies).

3. Implements and makes locally relevant system Mission strategies, policies, and standard practices in accordance with operational plans and priorities identified at the System level. May have Mission Integration Consultant(s) reporting to them to assist in these functions as designated by MSP

4. Works with a Local Coordinating Council (LCC) to ensure the assessment and improvement of Mission Essential Services across all ministries and the implementation of the Trinity Mission Integration Operational Plan and Priority Objectives within a Local Community of Service (LCS). May serve as chair of the LCC as designated by MSP.

5. Serves as an active member of the local executive leadership team(s), HSA leadership teams as designated by the MSP, strategic and organizational development teams and other leadership groups as appropriate. Develops, participates in, leads and influences daily operational decisions and activities of the ministry by contributing a Mission-focused perspective, experience, encouragement and challenge.

6. Attends local ministry Board meetings and provides Mission-focused formation and education for the Board on a regular basis.

7. Ensures that standard Mission policies and procedures are implemented locally.

8. Beginning with orientation of new colleagues, the mission leader ensures continuing formation of local leaders and colleagues.

9. Ensures that Mission, Vision, and Core Values are integrated into local policies and procedures and collaborates with colleagues in all operational areas: e.g., management development, human resources, finances, planning, advocacy/government relations, communication and marketing, Community Health and Well-Being and so forth to accomplish that.

10. Oversees the implementation of all phases of Promoting Catholic Identity (PCI), a program to assess and deepen the organization's Catholic identity.

11. Oversees and provides for local organizational and clinical ethics training and monitoring including the implementation of the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services (ERDs) and the support of local Ethics Committees.

12. Supports and coordinates local Mission Discernment processes and education.

13. Collaborates with and supports the work of the Spiritual Care Manager(s) and the Director of Spiritual Care within the local ministry and community or service.

14. Implements local plans for workplace spirituality that are aligned with HSA and system strategies.

15. Collaborates with System-level Mission Integration leadership, the local ministry's President, the HSA CEO and the Mission Strategy Partner in maintaining strong and effective relationships with the Diocesan Bishop and Diocesan Liaison for Health Care.

16. Participates as an active member of the Trinity Health Mission Council.

17. Reports to the Mission Strategy Partner and works collaboratively with the HSA CEO and local President/Administrator(s).

18. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations, Trinity Health's Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Must possess an in-depth knowledge of Catholic theology and ethics particularly as applied to Catholic health care and as normally obtained through a Master's Degree in theology or a related field. Must have experience in nurturing the Catholic identity of an organization through understanding and applying Catholic social teachings. At least 3 years of clinical practice or ministerial experience in health care preferred.

2. Must have proven successful management and/or educational experience in an institutional setting. Must demonstrate skill and experience in strategic thinking, program/project management, process improvement and organizational/change management. Experience in health care setting preferred.

3. Must be comfortable operating in a collaborative, shared leadership environment including the ability to establish and maintain interdisciplinary relationships in a complex matrixed organization.

4. Must possess effective communications skills with the ability to relate well to individual persons and to make public presentations. Must have demonstrated listening skills.

5. Must evidence a working knowledge of the connections among spirituality, meaning and work as well as an appreciation of the process of religious formation and a respect for diversity of religious beliefs and culture.

6. Must possess a personal presence characterized by a sense of honesty, integrity, and caring with the ability to inspire and motivate others to promote the mission, vision and values of Trinity Health.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

1. Must be able to set and organize own work priorities and adapt to them as they change frequently. Must be able to work concurrently on a variety of tasks/projects in an environment that may be stressful with individuals having diverse personalities and work styles.

2. Must be able to travel to sites within a local area within Trinity Health (10%).

3. Must comply with Trinity Health policies and procedures.
