Job Description Summary:
The Consumer Engineering organization at PayPal Inc. is looking for a staff engineer in the mobile application development space. This is a very high visibility, high impact role focused on improving the latency of key flows within the PayPal and Venmo mobile apps and further ensuring that the latency baselines established for these flows are not exceeded on a go forward basis.

Job Description:

Day to Day Responsibilities
  • Identifying gaps in the collection of latency metrics across key product flows for the Android and iOS versions of the PayPal and Venmo apps
  • Instrumenting collection of customer perceived latency metrics across the PayPal and Venmo apps
  • Designing, implementing and releasing solutions to improve the end-to-end latency for the key flows
  • Stay current with the newest mobile technologies; research new technologies and make recommendations on how to leverage them to improve the app latency
  • Develop and communicate technical processes, standards, and best practices to the team to ensure latency baselines for key flows are upheld across app releases
Required Skills
  • 5+ years of experience in iOS and/or Android based mobile application development
  • Expert understanding of the Android System APIs, Firebase Services, Android app lifecycle
  • Expert knowledge of iOS architecture and Swift programming skills
  • Expert knowledge in Kotlin
  • Knowledge of design patterns pertaining to mobile app development
  • Knowledge of industry best practices in improving mobile app performance
  • Strong record of collaboration with multiple teams and platforms to deliver and support major projects and features
  • A team player who values collaboration, innovation, and inclusion
  • B.S. or equivalent degree in Computer Science

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Interest in the payments industry
