If so, you should consider a career as a Nexus Examiner with the Nebraska Department of Revenue. Positions in this dynamic and exciting field are on the front lines of tax administration and education. Nexus Examiners conduct in-office reviews of taxpayer documentation to ensure compliance with existing laws and regulations. After contact, they review information collected to help assist the taxpayer in voluntarily reporting any existing liabilities to the State. They provide taxpayers education specific to their business to ensure future compliance.

Job duties include:
1.Contacts taxpayers to collect information for use in nexus examinations.
2.Reviews information collected on file, forms, and records to determine compliance with Nebraska tax laws and filing requirements
3.Prepares work papers, spreadsheets or review summaries for nexus examinations.
4.Respond to taxpayer requests for information and explanations.
5.Document relevant facts, information, results, and recommendations, and maintains databases/manual records pertinent to nexus examinations conducted.
6.Discuss findings produced by nexus research and/or examinations conducted with Revenue teammates.
Minimum Qualifications: post high school education or training in bookkeeping, accounting, or mathematics and at least two years of related experience; OR Bachelor's degree with emphasis in accounting.
Preferred: at least six hours in accounting; work experience in federal or state taxation.
Other: Valid driver's license or the ability to provide independent authorized transportation.
The successful candidate will possess:
• Knowledge of financial and accounting records and principles.
• Intermediate working knowledge of Word and Excel.
• Math skills.
• Communication skills.
• Analytical abilities.
• Research abilities.
