It is expected that all RN Clinical Nurses - are licensed, knowledgeable and uphold the practice of nursing as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and implements the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics Standards put forth by the American Nurses Association.

Job Summary: The Student Nurse Intern (SNI) is a support care provider who functions under the direction of the clinical nurse (registered professional nurse). The Nurse Intern's primary focus will be to promote a positive patient experience by partnering with the patient, family, and other health care providers to provide excellence in customer service and assistance with daily living activities and comfort measures. The Nurse Intern position reports directly to the Nurse Manager. Key responsibilities of the role include: providing safe, age appropriate and culturally aware care by performing basic patient care functions, i.e., ADL's, ambulation, vital signs, approved advanced technical procedures, i.e. phlebotomy, simple treatments, dressing changes, oral, tracheal, endotracheal suctioning, splinting, insertion and discontinuing foley catheters; performing 12-lead EKG and transporting supplies/equipment/patient medications. May be required to support clinical care area by performing clerical functions including computer order entry, retrieval of data, maintaining unit supplies, transporting supplies/equipment/patient medications, preparing, and maintaining patient charts, providing customer service, and acting as the central communication source on the nursing unit and other activities, as necessary. The Nurse Intern must be able to work in a fast-paced environment which requires multi-tasking activities and ongoing communication with the registered nurse. Must be able to perform under stressful conditions with a compassionate, respectful, and helpful manner. Must be able to take direction from a variety of care providers. Must be organized with excellent communication skills. The NI role promotes a positive patient experience by partnering with the patient, family and other health care providers to provide excellence in customer service and assistance with basic daily living activities and comfort measures. Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions: - Excellence in Customer Service and Patient Centered Care a. Provides patient care under the supervision of the Registered Professional Nurse b. Provides basic patient care needs (ex. Hygiene, nutrition, elimination, physical comfort measures) as assigned. c. Protects rights, confidentiality, concerns, and dignity of patients d. Provides a safe environment for the provision of patient care e. Participates in hourly patient rounding f. Answers telephone and call lights promptly and notifies appropriate individual of need for follow-up. g. Proactively helps and comfort measures to patients and families h. Present self in positive and professional manner and show sensitivity to concerns and needs of others i. Assist RN and other members of health care team with care delivery as assigned j. Consistent use of appropriate hand hygiene Maintain patient rooms and unit areas clean and free of clutter k. Follows appropriate PPE/Infection control policies l. Reinforces the importance of universal precautions with patient and patients family m. Utilizes proper body mechanics and lift equipment Teamwork a. Supports initiatives of the health care team b. Participates in unit performance improvement initiatives c. Supports professional nursing practice through shared governance, evidenced-based practice, and ethical accountability d. Transports unit supplies, patient care supplies, medications and equipment as assigned e. Practices accountability Communication a. Uses effective written and oral communication skills with patients, staff, physicians, family, and visitors b. Uses safety communication techniques. c. Communicates completion of assignment/duties to appropriate person d. Communicates patient care concerns/problems/emergencies to the RN e. Uses positive and respectful communication with all members of healthcare team, patients, and families. Evolving Professional Practice a. Completes a minimum of one of the following professional development activities per year: i. Professional Enrichment session ii. Professional practice advancement activities Required Minimum Education: Graduate of an accredited registered nursing program Required and requires initial registration to sit for NCLEX within 2 months of graduation. If unsuccessful at initial NCLEX attempt, must register for 2nd NCLEX within 2 months of initial testing. If intern does not pass NCLEX after 3rd attempt, will be transitioned to a care partner role and referred to career navigation for future support opportunities. Required Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s): All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.
  • Basic Life Support or BLS - Instructor
Additional License(s) and Certification(s):Required Minimum Experience: Graduated from an accredited nursing program Required Required Minimum Skills: Ability to read, write and speak the English language. Strong customer service and interpersonal skills. Ability to collaborate with other health care providers in the provision of patient care. Ability to multi-task essential. Ability to function in stressful and emergency situations essential. Strong detail orientation required. Computer skills required. Personal time management skills are required. Basic computer skills required. Ability to enter information into an electronic medical record required. Basic medical terminology required.
