Job Summary
Responsible for facilitating the technology transfer activities within ICT (Illinois Center for Transportation) by implementing new and expanding existing outreach efforts and maintaining long-term relationships between the center and the transportation research community.
The Illinois Center for Transportation (ICT) within the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at The Grainger College of Engineering seeks applicants for the position of Outreach Specialist. This position is responsible for facilitating the technology transfer activities within ICT by implementing new and expanding existing outreach efforts and maintaining long- term relationships between the center and the transportation research community.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and expand ICT's (Illinois Center for Transportation) outreach program by carrying out the Center's strategic vision and administering a long-term implementation plan for training and know-how transfer. This includes the coordination of training initiatives that address specific research needs in coordination with multiple sponsors.
  • Manage ICT websites, training database, and social media platforms, in coordination with the Department's IT unit develop training material for multi-functional areas, propose, design and champion innovative and engaging learning solutions, and continuously identify and recommend additional guidelines for improving offered training experience.
  • Coordinate outreach opportunities and efforts associated with the Center to maintain relationships with the University, Smart Transportation Infrastructure Initiative and federal and national organizations.
  • Rely on independent research skills to write, edit, and proofread technical articles on ICT research projects for ICT website and ICT e-newsletter, highlighting key findings of the center's research-efforts, communication with principal investigators, projects, researchers, and sponsoring agency representatives to identify featured technical content.
  • Assist in the preparation of publication content for design, layout, and distribution including artist correspondence, research, copywriting, and proofreading adhere to publication standards and establish goals and expectations oversee final layout (artwork, design, photography) and check content for accuracy and errors.
  • Represent ICT at outreach events to further the mission of the Center, amplify the Center's core messages and reach virtual audiences around the world. Travel as needed to ICT meetings and conferences. Perform other duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications
    • Bachelor's degree in marketing, business administration, communications, public relations, or a closely related field.
    • One year of professional work experience in marketing, public relations, communications, brand management, or a related professional in a corporate or university setting
    Preferred Qualifications
    • Experience in technology transfer and/or training coordination experience.
    • Three or more years of communications and/or writing experience.
    • Experience with content management systems (such as Composite and Campaign Monitor), as well as software programs (inDesign, Photoshop, and fileMakerPro)
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Publisher, and Access).
  • Excellent detail-oriented, organizational, and administrative skills to operate effectively in a fast-paced, multi-faceted work environment.
  • Proven ability to manage products within established deadlines.
  • Ability to multi-task, while coping with numerous interruptions.
  • Flexibility to adapt to sudden changes in planning and activities.
  • Knowledge of the University of Illinois organization, structure, policies, procedures, activities and programs.
  • Appointment Information
    This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 5002 - Program Coordinator position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 11/14/2022. Salary is commensurate with experience.
