PARASITE BIOLOGIST/MOLECULAR PARASITOLOGIST INTERN

Location: Kalamazoo, MI

Internship Summary:

The successful individual will work closely with scientists and staff at the Zoetis Kalamazoo facilities to develop and conduct parasitology research assisting in assays, study design, development, and validation. The individual may also conduct in vivo research and potentially molecular biology research. Lastly, the intern will present their work to others within the company at an internal poster session.

Internship Job Duties:

  • Parasite and/or cell culturing
  • Potential for in vitro screening and cell function assays
  • Data capture in electronic database and statistical analysis
  • Conducting molecular assays including but not limited to DNA/RNA preparation, PCR and sequencing
  • Sequencing and bioinformatics analysis, including BLAST, gene annotation, pathway analysis
  • Literature review

Internship Qualifications:
  • Enrolled in a Master's level or higher program in either parasitology, immunology, molecular biology or a similar field
  • Experience with basic laboratory procedures and molecular methods (courses or lab experience) is preferred
  • Experience handling companion animals is preferred
  • Enrolled in a degree program during the Spring term preceding internship
  • Completion of at least one year of undergraduate studies and a 3.0 GPA or higher
  • At least 18 years of age and authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Successfully pass a background check and drug screen
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, problem solving & analytical skills
