Payroll Accountant

Nature of Work

Perform various accounting tasks to ensure accurate and timely completion of work within one or more sections, such as accounts payable/receivable, payroll, or general accounting, and compile this data for review by supervisor. This role will have a specific emphasis on Payroll.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Compile & sort documents substantiating business transactions such as invoices, checks, labor reports, etc.
  • Establish & distribute documents & maintain files as directed by supervisor for payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, & general accounting documents.
  • Verify, investigate, & post details of business transactions, such as funds received & disbursed, & post information to the appropriate accounts in the accounting system database.
  • Prepare vouchers, invoices, checks, account statements, reports, & other records, & review for accuracy.
  • Assist employees, vendors, clients, or customers by answering questions related to accounts, procedures, & services.
  • Prepare various daily, weekly, monthly, annual, & job-to-date reports.
  • Prepare journal entries relating to one or more of the following processes: general ledger, cash disbursements, time & expense, accounts receivable, cash receipts, & payroll & management reporting.
  • Review, analyze, reconcile, & if needed, correct general ledger transactions under direct supervision.
  • Make recommendations to supervisor for cost effective methods of accomplishing specific functions.
  • Assume partial responsibility for a certain function(s) in the day-to-day operation of one or more sections, such as payroll, accounts payable, general accounting, or a subordinate section.
  • Routinely report/update progress towards department initiatives to senior/supervisory personnel.
  • Prepare special reports & complete other projects as directed.
  • Exercise initiative or, as directed, perform additional duties to meet the needs of the organization.

Eduation

High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED).

Experience

A minimum of three or more years of related work experience is required.
