Job Info

The RLR Hardware Engineering team is seeking a PCB Layout Engineer. This candidate will complete designs involving the test and prototype electrical systems for future consumer virtual reality (VR) experiences. You will become a key member of all the teams within RLR Hardware exploring new concepts through fast iterative prototyping. We are looking for a self-starter and a team player who can thrive in a dynamic, quick-paced environment. Strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to multi-task across various disciplines is a must. This position requires an individual with deep understanding of PCB design; mixed high-speed, power supplies, analog and RF environments. This role requires collaboration with engineers and multiple project team members in the design and development of detailed layouts utilizing multiple types of PCBs; rigid, FPC, rigid-FPC, aluminum backing, etc. Your responsibilities include performing complex CAD and CAE tasks requiring extensive knowledge of software capabilities, proposing PCB design trade-offs, solving electrical design, packaging, and manufacturing issues. You will act as a liaison between RLR Hardware and the PCB Fab/Assembly vendors to determine stack-ups, design constraints, new technologies, and solve any manufacturing concerns.

PCB Layout Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Work with the Hardware Engineering team(s) to provide Schematic and PCB board designs. Layouts range from simple to complex, multi-layer printed circuit boards containing analog, digital, RF, and power components
  • PCB Liaison for dedicated team(s) under RL Research to prioritize, optimize resource capacity, and manage interdependencies and resolve conflicts
  • Collaborate with PCB vendors to select proper materials, stack-ups, obtain impedance specifications, DFX rulesets, assembly requirements, and resolve any manufacturing related issues
  • Create and manage PCB documentation including fabrication and assembly packages
  • Work with the document control department to release fab and assembly packages into the company-wide PLM system
  • Create and maintain Schematic symbols and PCB footprints among multiple libraries
  • Work closely with ECAD librarian(s) on maintaining and expanding the company-wide library
  • Collaborate in a team environment across engineering disciplines
  • Initiate Better Engineering improvements in processes and culture to accelerate timelines and increase efficiency

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree
  • 7+ years of PCB Design experience using Altium or Cadence/Allegro
  • Knowledge of IPC, JEDEC, IEEE, and other electronic standards
  • Experience in creating schematic symbols and PCB footprints in libraries
  • Experience interpreting datasheets and schematics to generate netlists and proper constraints in the layout design
  • Experience in designing multiple PCB types: · HDI Design · Rigid, Flex, and Rigid-Flex Design · Wire Bonding Design · Aluminum Backed Design
  • Experience in designing high speed differential circuits, power circuits, analog and RF circuits
  • Experience in PCB layout design constraints for mixed/RF signal, signal impedance control, memory interfaces, power distribution, heat dissipation, and optimization for EMI performance

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Altium Enterprise/Concord Pro or similar library management systems
  • Proven track record to design & manage all aspects of the printed board design
  • BS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 10+ years experience of PCB layout design using Altium or Cadence/Allegro
