Description:We are seeking an experienced Pharmacist with demonstrated knowledge working in a hospital setting. Must have Critical Care pharmacy experience. This position will support our Germantown Hospital location.

General Summary:

  • Interprets and evaluates physician orders in order to prepare and dispense appropriate medications to patients at Holy Cross Health for the Pharmacy Department
  • Manages drug therapy of patients.
  • Reviews, accesses and maintains patient medication records and profiles for allergies, drug interactions and therapeutic duplication to provide a consistent quality of patient care and appropriate drug therapy.
  • Provides information to physicians, nurses, and patients.
  • May assist in developing competencies for the department.
  • Assists in the supervision of pharmacy technicians in distributive functions and departmental operations under the direction of the pharmacy operations manager and director of pharmacy.
  • Performance demonstrates efforts to improve patient satisfaction, lower costs and improve quality.
Minimum Licensure/Certification Required (if applicable):
  • Active Maryland Pharmacy Licensure
  • Active BLS and ACLS Certification
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:

** Residency Training Highly Preferred**
  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy or Doctor of Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy.
  • Current licensure from the Maryland State Board of Pharmacy.
  • Able to communicate effectively, speak, write and comprehend English.
  • Able to work cooperatively with hospital and pharmacy staff in order to meet departmental objectives. Must be able to handle frequent interruptions and adapt to changes in workload and work schedule.
  • Preferred: Knowledge of software: Word, Excel, Power Point; ASHP accredited residency, membership in ASHP, MSHP, MPhS, and WMSHP.
Working Conditions:

Physical Requirements: Capable of exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Some pushing and pulling of carts is required along with bending, stooping (10% of time), considerable standing and walking (50% of time) and occasional lifting, usually no more than twenty pounds. Must have auditory acuity.

Visual Acuity: Required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.

Environmental Conditions: The worker is subject to hazards. Includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. Strict aseptic technique must be followed in preparation of intravenous admixtures and chemotherapeutic agents and precautions must be taken against personal risk of contamination and exposure to infections during cardiac arrest team service.

Reporting Relationship:
  • Reports to the director of pharmacy; accountable to pharmacy operations manager for matters pertaining to pharmacy operations.
  • Accountable for directing the activities of pharmacy technicians related to patient care and departmental and professional standards.
