Job Title:Post Doctoral ScholarDepartment:Arts and Sciences | Geography

The Department of Geography is seeking a post doctoral scholar focused on the study of atmosphere-ocean interaction and decadal climate variability.

Conducts and analyzes simulations using earth system models; Prepares and/or presents seminars, talks or lectures for dissemination of knowledge on air-sea interaction and decadal climate variability; Advises graduate students in the analysis and interpretation of model output; Write progress reports, technical reports and journal articles.

Minimum Education Required

Ph.D. in atmospheric or oceanic sciences, or related field.

Required Qualifications

A strong interest in climate modeling and analysis is required. Familiarity with climate modeling and supercomputing environments and related programming languages, in particular Linux, Fortran and Python are essential. Extensive working experience in programing in Fortran and Python is required.

Desired Qualifications

Experience in numerical modeling and statistical analysis is highly desirable. Written and oral communication skills sufficient to lead manuscripts and present research at conferences are also desirable.

Additional Information:

The initial appointment is for one year, starting September 1, 2024, with possible extension for an additional year based on performance and availability of funding.

The pay range for this job profile is $58,000 - $59,000. The offer for this position will fall within this range based on internal equity, the unit's available budget, and the candidate's qualifications.
