Job Info

The laboratory of Dr. Daniel Hollern at the Salk Institute of Biological Studies Department of Immunobiology and Microbial Pathogenesis in La Jolla, California seeks to recruit a Postdoctoral Fellow to engage in immuno-oncology research.

The main focus of the lab is to understand the immunological and molecular landscape of tumors with the goal of leveraging the immune component to promote anti-tumor immunity. In more detail, the lab is particularly interested in developing these approaches through the study of tumor infiltrating B cells and T cells. These studies will be pursued in syngeneic, orthotopic and genetically engineered mouse models as well as patient specimens.  The lab utilizes a multidisciplinary approach blending biologically appropriate models, molecular biology, and genomic analytical techniques including single cell and spatial transcriptomics and proteomics to interrogate pertinent questions in a number of in vitro and in vivo translational studies of breast cancer.

Position Highlights:

  • Be involved in exciting projects to understand B cell and T cell immunobiology in solid cancers and studies exploring novel immunotherapeutic strategies.
  • Conduct independent and collaborative studies in an Immunology lab focusing on clinically-relevant translational studies.
  • Opportunity to learn techniques in single-cell and spatial computational genomics and immuno-oncology by projects investigating beneficial patient outcomes and anti-tumor immunity.
  • Opportunity to develop new models for immune-oncology research.
  • Participation at scientific meetings, membership in relevant scientific organizations, and applying for training grants will be encouraged and supported.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience with analysis of genomic datasets such as RNA-seq, spatial datasets and single cell sequencing.
  • Experience working with lab animals and expertise in the following cellular biology techniques:
    • Murine syngeneic and genetically engineered models of cancers as well as allografts/xenografts
    • Multi-parameter flow cytometry
    • Cell culture
    • Elispot or Luminex-based assays for cytokine/chemokine assessments.
    • Immunofluorescent staining, imaging and fluorescent microscopy.
  • Experience with standard molecular biology assays and genome editing (Crispr).
  • Experience with proven record of publications in reputable journals, preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform investigational studies to understand the tumor microenvironment.
  • Execute experiments independently and contribute to collaborative projects.
  • Write grants.
  • Write manuscripts for publishing.
  • Train and supervise junior staff and participate in overall lab management.
  • Analyze and present data at local and national meetings.

Credentials and Qualifications:

Ph.D. in Immunology, Cellular/Molecular Biology, or related fields. M.D. are welcome to apply. Hands-on-experience in laboratory research and good computer skills are required.
