Description:

The Mangrove Lab at Tulane University is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work on research relating to blue carbon modeling and global mangrove dynamics. The exact topic of the research performed by the Research Fellow can be self-motivated and defined, but should be synergistic with ongoing research in the Mangrove Lab. Areas of interest include:

·         Mangrove soil carbon modeling at landscape and/or global scales

·         Mangrove above-ground biomass modeling (including interannual variability)

·         Large-scale climatic and biophysical drivers of variation in blue carbon stocks and fluxes

·         Mapping drivers of mangrove deforestation and degradation

 The candidate will also gain experience in mentoring graduate and undergraduate students in their field of expertise. The candidate will join the Mangrove Lab, a vibrant group of students and researchers interested in topics related to mangrove forests and blue carbon. The candidate will be expected to make a positive, supportive and constructive contribution to this research group. For more information please visit www.themangrovelab.com.

 The Research Fellow and PI will create a mentorship and career plan at the beginning of this position. The position is for a one year appointment and can be renewed for another year after an annual review, with the possibility of extension depending on performance and funding. This position is expected to start as soon as possible.


Qualifications:

Candidates are expected to hold a PhD in Environmental Sciences, Ecology, Geography, Geosciences or similar. The candidate will have a demonstrated background in large-scale (landscape, regional or global) modelling or remote sensing. Fluency in statistics and data analysis in Matlab, R or equivalent is required.
