Dow is looking for a Process Containment Equipment (PCE) Engineer to join the PCE Department within Central Engineering Houston which is Dow's internal capital project design organization aligned to the Technical Expertise & Support (TES) organization. This position is located in Houston, Texas.

Central Engineering executes new and major expansions of chemical facilities for Dow and consists of locations in Houston, Texas and Chennai, India. Central Engineering is a multi-discipline organization which includes Project Engineering, Project Controls, Process Engineering, Mechanical, PCE, Electrical, Instrumentation, Civil/Structural, and Piping.

The PCE Engineer will work with other Engineers and Drafters within the discipline to support capital project teams by elaborating equipment specifications, developing conceptual and final design solutions and managing and coordinating related project activities. Individual will apply technical knowledge in the design, application, and procurement of PCE equipment. Individual will ensure the PCE Work Process Discipline (WPD) is used on capital projects to provide the design activities necessary for the construction and maintenance of process plants. Individual will apply knowledge of PCE equipment and systems, applicable codes and standards to ensure the most effective design in compliance with Dow Safety and Loss Prevention Principles, industry standards and local codes and regulations is obtained.

Responsibilities / Duties

  • Carries out design, engineering and calculations of Pressure Vessels, Process Towers/Columns, Drums, Reactors, Filters, Coalescers, Jacketed Vessels, Shop/Field Fabricated Tanks, Heat Exchangers of all kinds, and other PCE equipment as per codes and standards, while ensuring cost efficient designs.
  • Develops PCE equipment Datasheets and Layouts, reviews/approves client specifications, prepares procurement inquiry packages, technically evaluates bids, and issues order packages for equipment, and coordinates review of supplier's drawings/data.
  • Checks and validates other PCE Design Engineer designs and drawings, as applicable.
  • Ensures that environmental regulations and Dow Safety and Loss Prevention Principles are considered in design.
  • Coordinates additional discipline requirements into the design of PCE equipment.
  • Understands and uses Dow's equipment procurement process.
  • Coordinates the input of supplier design data into the overall project design.
  • Develops detailed PCE equipment installation and operation instructions, as applicable.
  • Provides technical support during construction and operation of facility, as applicable.
  • Meets and corresponds with suppliers and/or external personnel on as-needed basis.
  • Timely and effectively reports progress of all assigned tasks to Discipline Leads.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Excellent creative thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Good organizational skills, i.e.: being able to manage multiple projects/tasks simultaneously while meeting project deadlines.
  • Work effectively under pressure, individually as well as part of a project team.
  • Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills are required to effectively communicate with other project team members, suppliers, and stakeholders.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience working on Capital Projects as Process Containment Equipment (PCE) Engineer or related industry experience is required. The preference for the experience would include design, specification and calculation of Pressure Vessels and other fixed/static equipment.
  • Knowledge of industry codes and standards ASME VIII DIV-1, ASME II, TEMA, ASTM, API-650 is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite tools (i.e.: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, etc.), Zyqad (Datasheet creation software) and Adept (Document Control software) is required.
  • A minimum requirement for this U.S. based position is the ability to work legally in the United States. No visa sponsorship/support is available for this position, including for any type of U.S. permanent residency (green card) process.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Proficiency in both MicroStation CONNECT (Drafting software) and static equipment design and calculation using COMPRESS/INSPECT software is preferred.
  • Knowledge of industry codes and standards: ASME VIII DIV-2, ASME V, WRC-107/297, ASCE, ANSI, PIP, B31.3., API-660, API-620, and other engineering related industry standards is preferred.
  • Rich "hands-on" experience in the design and detail engineering of PCE equipment, like: Pressure Vessels, Heat Exchangers, and API Storage Tanks, as per applicable design codes preferred.
