Procurement and Supply Chain Manager

Summary

Procurement and Supply Chain Manager will take a leadership role in executing effective and efficient procurement and supply chain services, ensuring values and competencies in maintaining transparency, integrity and compliance with established rules and regulations.

The procurement and supply chain manager is responsible for overseeing and managing company's overall supply chain and logistics strategy in order to maximize the process efficiency and productivity. In addition, they play a crucial role in developing and maintaining good relationships with vendors and distributors.

Strong math, analytical, organizational, and communication skills are essential for the success of procurement and supply chain manager. They should be detail-oriented team players, possessing negotiation skills and the ability to work independently as needed. An understanding of business operations and processes is important to their work. Additionally, the procurement and supply chain manager needs strong leadership and interpersonal skills, as they work with a diverse number of people, such as executives, suppliers, vendors, and customers. Along with these crucial skills, it is important that procurement specialists are able to:

  • Assess costs and negotiate vendor and supply prices
  • Analyze business supply needs and ensure businesses are getting the best possible material
  • Train and evaluate others
  • Determine key supply chain Key Process Indicators (KPI's)
  • Hold team accountable for achieving annual inventory and cost out goals


Essential Functions

The Procurement and Supply Chain Manager is responsible for planning and implementing the overall supply chain strategy. They must collaborate with Sales, Operations and Engineering to ensure timely, quality sources of supply to meet company performance goals. They are also responsible for achieving annual cost reduction and inventory management targets. Specific duties and responsibilities include:

  1. Manage the entire process in the planning of procurement and supply chain activities, inventory control, logistics and distribution, ensuring effectively-functioning processes to avoid costly delays and lost opportunities
  2. Be responsible for introducing process improvements in the supply chain and identify new vendors/suppliers without jeopardizing quality and service delivery
  3. Implement strategic procurement including sourcing strategy, supplier selection and evaluation, quality management, customer relationship management and performance measurement.
  4. Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual procurement plans and progress reports as required
  5. Lead the establishment and management of professional procurement services through Long Term Agreements.
  6. Develop, implement and maintain policies, procedures and material control systems according to ISO procedures.
  7. Responsible for disposition of excess and obsolete materials.
  8. Responsible for accurate and regular inventory cycle counts, and controls
  9. Formulate, administer, control, and communicate necessary vendor quality programs such as Vendor SPC, Supplier Quality Program and Vendor Evaluation in order to meet objectives and standards.
  10. Establish procurement standards, policies, and key vendor relationships/partnerships.
  11. Establish competency in understanding of QAD MRP system.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position is responsible for managing procurement specialists, buyers, department support staff and supplier quality engineer

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Regularly work in excess of 40 hours per week.

Travel

Moderate (less than 25%) is expected for this position

Required Education and Experience
  1. Bachelor's degree in Business preferred; Supply Chain Management and/or MBA highly preferred.
  2. 5 - 10 years of experience in a supply chain/purchasing preferred
  3. Demonstrated proficiency in using an MRP System
  4. Demonstrated proficiency in contract negotiations


Preferred Education and Experience
  1. Experience in global sourcing
  2. Experience in building and analyzing Make/Buy models
  3. Experience setting up Item Masters and MRP Parameters
  4. Greenbelt or lean certification preferred
  5. Working knowledge of Microsoft applications (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint)
  6. APICS certification or work towards certification preferred
