We welcome applicants from the following locations: Phoenix, AZ / Los Angeles, CA / San Diego, CA. You will start your career in the local market, where you will learn and train with the district team, as our development training program provides you with all the skills vital for a successful career as a Professional Consulting Veterinarian with Hill's.

Upon successful completion of the development and training program, you will be assigned to your permanent location (which could be anywhere in the US). You will be expected to move to the new location within 90 days. The Professional Consulting Veterinarian (PCV) is part of Hill's Customer Development Organization, and interacts with the US Professional and Veterinary Affairs team. The PCV is responsible for relationship building, education, and influence of veterinary and pet retail customers, in order to earn the Hill's recommendation.

These customers include veterinary specialists, general practitioners, members of the veterinary healthcare team, Key Thought Leaders in the veterinary profession, academic administrators, faculty, residents, interns, and students, leaders of veterinary professional organizations, and pet retailers. This role also provides support for local district sales teams by delivering internal education to sales Territory Managers, providing external education and training to pet and veterinary customers, and supporting customer initiatives. The PCV works closely with the District Manager in their assigned district to identify business needs and implement strategies.

The PCV's work ensures that Hill's is known as a scientific, innovative, and credible partner that is engaged with veterinary and pet care professionals to transform the lives of dogs and cats through outstanding nutrition.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Key Thought Leaders, Specialty Hospitals, and Colleges of Veterinary Medicine

  • Establish influential relationships with Key Thought Leaders in specialty hospitals and academia. Find opportunities to deliver relevant continuing education and engage KTLs in Hills' initiatives. Promote active recommendation and endorsement of Hill's products.
  • Call on specialty hospital customers with appropriate frequency, based on tier. Educate and implement initiatives that result in an active Hill's recommendation from the veterinary healthcare team. Increase Hill's sales and market share with assigned specialty hospital customers.
  • Engage with College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) faculty, interns, residents and 3rd/4th year students. Provide education on clinical nutrition and Hill's products, improving nutritional competence and influencing active recommendation of Hill's products. Build relationships with administrators and key staff to establish Hill's as a valuable and trusted partner.
  • Work with Hill's Student Representatives to target and coordinate opportunities to build a positive presence in veterinary schools, and to encourage the use of Hill's products through the VIP Market program.

District Support

  • Increase sales and market share and establish Hill's as the preferred partner with pet retail and veterinary healthcare teams, to help achieve district performance goals. Deliver appropriate education, mentor, and training to meet customer needs.
  • Use the tools of technology to improve educational reach and influence.
  • Support Territory Managers' technical, nutritional, and product expertise with education and training during district meetings and conference calls, and while working in the field.
  • Work closely with District Manager to identify and prioritize business needs and implement strategies. Help to plan and participate in district customer events that will increase product sales and market share.

Regional, National, and Corporate Activities

  • Represent Hill's at assigned regional and national veterinary conferences and corporate customer meetings.
  • Develop working relationships with local and regional veterinary associations to identify, target and prioritize opportunities that support Hill's strategies.
  • Partner with US Marketing and Retail Marketing teams to provide customer insight and technical support for Hill's products and programs.
  • Serve on project teams, deliver webinars, and support Hill's customer tours as assigned.

Basic qualifications:

  • Professional degree in veterinary medicine (DVM, VMD or equivalent)
  • 4+ years clinical practice experience required
  • Current and active license to practice veterinary medicine in at least one state.
  • Fluent in Spanish

Expected Areas of Skills/ Abilities:

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Valid driver's license with no moving violations
  • Able to work independently to manage a fast paced schedule with irregular hours and to manage travel within geography/region
  • Ability to relocate for career advancement
  • Able to fulfill travel requirements of the position (on average 1-2 nights per week, but will vary).

  • Animal health industry or sales experience.
