Job Summary

The professional learning specialist (PLS) designs, develops and supports the delivery, monitoring and management of center-hosted in-person and online equity-focused professional learning and networking experiences across the center's tiered service provision framework. The PLS works closely with the center's technical assistance specialists and office manager, and in collaboration with the associate directors, director of operations, and executive director.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Contributes to the development and execution of a comprehensive professional learning and networking event calendar. Supports the design and implementation of a regional professional learning and networking event calendar including event related marketing activities.
  • Designs, develops, coordinates, and delivers learning and networking experiences. Works within established processes, frameworks, and structures to design, develop, coordinate, deliver and manage in-person and online professional learning and networking experiences.
  • Designs and produces learning materials in variety of formats including print, graphics, audio, video, animation, and multimedia to support professional development, collaboration, and knowledge construction.
  • Identifies and utilizes effective social networking and media technologies and strategies within selected learning management systems (LMS) as well as other participatory structures to facilitate knowledge sharing among regional partners.
  • Provides event planning and facilitation supports. Works with office manager to facilitate event logistics and associated communications.
  • Organizes and archives related documents and contribute to data reporting activities. Organizes and archives via the Center's electronic document file sharing platform related event documents. Completes required grant and center reporting activities.
General Responsibilities
  • Consults and serves as an experienced resource in planning, testing and implementing instructional technology projects that support innovative approaches to learning, instructional and assessment.
  • Maintains currency on emerging technologies related to learning management systems, active learning classrooms, electronic collaboration and social networking, instructional use of multimedia, electronic conferencing and online instruction to help faculty make evidence-based decisions about the use of technology.
  • Researches, stays up-to-date, and recommends appropriate technologies for developing materials, delivery mechanisms and course/instructor/student assessments to support effective teaching.
  • Develops and designs workshop materials that promote technology strategies in traditional and online courses and conducts individual, group and large audience training sessions.
  • Collaborates in larger initiatives and working groups to support university efforts to improve teaching and learning.

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required
  • Bachelor's degree (preferably in computer science, instructional technology/design, or related field)
Preferred
  • Master's degree
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 2 years of experience in instructional development and/or instructional technology consulting, and/or training, and/or teaching (face-to-face or online) or providing instructional design with online instructional technology, preferably in a higher education context
Preferred
  • 3 years of experience developing and leading instructional content and processes for professional development with educators

  • Knowledge of adult learning principles. Universal Design for Learning principles and practices for designing content-rich interactive professional learning experiences for adult learners, and familiarity with sociocultural learning theories
  • Highly skilled in oral and written communication and public speaking
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently. Proficient in project management
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
  • Proficient with online learning management systems and virtual collaboration platforms (e.g., Canvas, Zoom, Microsoft Teams)
  • Demonstrates excellent judgment and decision-making skill

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Additional Information

This position is grant funded with expected annual renewals. Renewals are contingent on the availability of grant funds.

$47,200-$66,000 a year
