Department Information

The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest academic unit at Indiana University Bloomington. It is composed of 40+ departments, 50+ Centers, Programs, and Institutes, while also including the Eskenazi School of Art, Architecture and Design, the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies, and The Media School. Faculty in the College teach over 50 percent of the Indiana University (Bloomington) credit hours in 80+ buildings on the Bloomington campus. The Department of Criminal Justice is part of the College of Arts and Sciences. The faculty in our department seek to understand crime, how it is defined, why people commit crime, and how society responds to crime. We also strive to find ways to make the system more just, effective and fair. We offer both undergraduate and graduate degrees.

Job Summary

  • Conducts research and compiles materials and information for departmental programs.
  • Prepares records of program activities; oversees and ensures the timely processing and delivery of required materials.
  • Reviews the policies and procedures involved in departmental programs; suggests improvements; and ensures that rules comply with university standards.
  • Analyzes data and information generated or produced by program; writes reports and other written materials based on this data.
  • Verifies the accuracy of all data and information used or generated by program; resolves any discrepancies or problems.
  • Responds to requests for program information by staff, students, and faculty; handles any necessary correspondence.
  • Serves as liaison for department; coordinates activities and exchanges information.
  • Manages the administrative and budgetary affairs of the Department of Criminal Justice and operates as Fiscal Officer Delegate
  • Conducts general business operations appropriately, efficiently, and in compliance with IU policies and procedures
  • Advises the chair on how academic plans and goals mesh with IU accounting, budgetary, procurement, and administrative policies
  • Serves as support or an advisory resource for enrollment management/planning and as the department's Scheduling Officer. Ensures that instructional effort reporting for the department is correct
  • Assists the chair in faculty searches using applicant tracking systems, and collaborates with VPFAA, Office of Affirmative Action, and the Office of International Services to ensure compliance with university policies
  • Collaborates with the chair and department fiscal officer to oversee all account and financial activities
  • Interprets departmental operating policies, procedures, and practices to maintain a system to audit and control all financial activities
  • Handles all audit requests that come into the department
  • Facilitates departmental event planning

Qualifications

EDUCATION

Required
  • High school diploma or GED
Preferred
  • Bachelor's degree
WORK EXPERIENCE

Required
  • 4 years of related work experience
Preferred
  • 3 years of office experience including or supplemented by experience in administering a program
  • Experience with university systems and procedures

Working Conditions / Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
