Job Description:

Central College seeks applicants (Ph.D. in psychology; ABD considered) for a tenure-line assistant professor in psychology beginning in August 2024 to join a dynamic and collaborative team of faculty committed to student success and to each other's professional development.

A successful candidate will be committed to excellence and innovation in undergraduate education and collaborative undergraduate research within a liberal arts setting. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching some combination of courses in their area(s) of expertise and contribute to teaching responsibilities shared by the entire department, which include General Psychology, Research Methods, and senior-level electives. Faculty have the opportunity to collaborate with students on research projects and supervise undergraduate capstone research and honors projects. In addition to teaching, all faculty at Central College are expected to participate in the life of the college, to advise students, and to demonstrate an ongoing commitment to professional development.

The successful candidate will be joining collegial tenured faculty in the psychology program who are committed to liberal arts education and undergraduate scholarship. The psychology major consists of topical elective classes within psychology's various sub-disciplines (e.g., biological, developmental, mental health, social) and a core sequence of classes focused on foundational research skills (e.g., general psychology, research methods, statistics, experimental psychology). Within this research sequence, each psychology major completes a group research project. Students also have the option to complete an individual capstone research project. Students regularly present these projects annually at regional and national psychology conferences. Students also have the option to complete internships and community-based learning placements. As such, our psychology graduates are well prepared for graduate study and B.A.-level employment in many areas. Approximately 45% of Central College's psychology majors enroll in graduate school immediately after graduation, while another 15% pursue advanced degrees after a period of work experience.

Requirements:

The successful candidate will have a specialization in a mental health (e.g., counseling) or applied area of psychology (e.g., educational, health, school psychology). Candidates who can teach Abnormal Psychology or Counseling Psychology are particularly encouraged to apply

Additional Information:

Review of applications will commence 26 February 2024 and will continue until the position is filled.
