Pay: $20.00-$24.00 an hour, depending on experience.

Position Overview

Responsible for coordinating the production of high-quality ready-mix concrete to fulfill customer order in the most safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner possible.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Duties and Functions)

  • Assure compliance with all safety programs.
  • Conduct daily T5 toolbox safety talks.
  • Ensure crew proper use of PPE.
  • Schedule plant production hours.
  • Provide direction to crew in order to meet customer orders.
  • Communicate with dispatch, sales and customers to efficiently meet customer's order schedule.
  • Communicate as needed with supervisors on issues affecting the business.
  • Perform batching of ready-mix concrete:
    • Ensuring proper mix design used.
    • Accurate metering of mix design materials, water, and admixes to meet job site requirements.
    • Work with Quality Control to ensure products meet specifications.
  • Operate plant and mobile equipment as needed.
  • Control and maintain raw material deliveries and inventories.
  • Oversee and participate in the cleaning of the equipment, plant, and site.
  • Properly maintain and perform routine maintenance on plant and mobile equipment.
  • Receive and process cash payments, complete daily paperwork, answer emails daily.
  • Complete all paperwork and reports required by the company in a timely manner.
  • Assist safety department with accident investigations.
  • Comply with environmental permits requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • This position is considered "Safety Sensitive".

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience
  • Minimum high school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Valid state driver's license and satisfactory driving record is required.
  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL), class A or B, is preferred.
  • Three to five years increasing responsibilities with concrete or similar duties within construction industry.
  • Ability to operate Windows based computers and Microsoft Office Suite.

Work Requirements
  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
  • Regular and predictable attendance at assigned times is required.
  • Strictly adhere to safety requirements, policies, and procedures as outlined in the employee policy manual.
  • Compliance with all OSHA and MSHA regulations.
  • Work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors/managers with other duties as required.
  • Available to work overtime, nights and weekends when necessary.
  • Travel and work away from home when necessary.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively with customers and company personnel.
  • Ability to supervise and control personnel to accommodate customer satisfaction.
  • Ability to take initiative and be a problem solver.
  • Ability to make good judgement calls when under pressure.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend detailed instructions.
  • Ability to understand maps.
  • Ability to perform mathematical functions pertinent to billing, volumes, quantities, etc.
  • Must have, or acquire, good computer skills in order to operate batching, billing, and communication equipment.

Physical Requirements

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
  • Climb: ascend/descend ladders, stairs, and equipment.
  • Lift: exertion of physical strength to move objects (50 lbs.) from one level to another.
  • Carry: hold or rest weighted objects (50 lbs.) directly on hands, arms, shoulders, or back while walking from one location to another.
  • Bend: flexion of the upper trunk forward while standing and knees extended, or knees flexed when sitting.
  • Push/Pull: Exertion of force on or against object (70 lbs.) to move it from one location to another.
  • Reach: extend the hands and arms in any direction.
  • Kneel: maintain the body in an erect posture while resting body weight on one or both knees.
  • Stoop: flexion of the upper body forward at the waist with partial flexion of the knee while standing.
  • Twist: using hand tools such as wrenches and screwdrivers.

Work Environment
  • Able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Noise: sufficient noise, either constant or intermittent, to cause marked distraction or possible injury to sense of hearing.
  • Fumes: vaporous emissions, usually odorous, thrown off as the result of combustion or chemical reaction.
  • Gases: carbon monoxide and ozone.
  • Dust: airborne particles of any kind such as dust.
  • Hazards: closeness to moving mechanical parts; slipping while ascending/descending stairs, ladders, and equipment; exposure to high temperatures during the summer and cold temperatures during the winter.
  • Protection: required to wear hard hat, safety glasses (prescription or non-prescription) with side shields, safety vest, gloves, steel-toed safety shoes, hearing protection.
