Under the supervision of the Vice President, the Regional Recycling Director will be responsible for day-to-day activities of material recovery facilities and the oversight of a team within a geographical territory. Operational focus/responsibilities incudes accountability of production, maintenance, safety, ensuring the quality of processed recyclables, labor planning and management, regulatory compliance, contract administration, and continuous improvement projects. This role will also be responsible for ensuring accurate communication across the organization to include Area Vice President, Recycling Vice President, and Regional Vice President. The Regional Director will work with facility general managers and facility maintenance managers to increase operational efficiencies. Efficiencies could include putting together operational plans for better/updated equipment or making process changes to increase quality production.

Essential Functions:

  • First priority is to work with individual sites to enhance safety and compliance programs.
  • Overall responsibility for production capacity, quality of processed materials and maximizing recovery of materials.
  • Provide leadership to site General Managers and Maintenance Mangers to increase production of quality materials.
  • Collaborate with Director of Maintenance and Process Engineering for various important site compliance and ideas for enhanced efficiencies.
  • Work with material marketing department and direct reports to maximize and optimize the value of the various sold commodities.
  • Track weekly site reporting and report up the results and any potential concerns.
  • Train new General Mangers and Facility Managers.
  • Work closely with AVP’s and RVP’s to ensure all important information about systems in their area’s is communicated and they completely understand any challenges.
  • Help maintain good relationships with some of the larger customers for the individual sites.
  • Engage with local recycling groups to show commitment to the business and communicate effectively within those groups.
  • Develop company bench strength through effective leadership and training.
  • Ability to manage, coach, counsel, discipline, and develop employees
  • Thorough understanding of various commodity types and pricing structures.
  • Work closely with entire North American recycling group.
  • Flexibility to accept and adapt to change as well as the commitment to seek continuous improvement
  • Work closely with RVP’s and AVP’s to develop MRF budgets and Capex requests.
  • Responsible for P&L results.


Requirements:

  • At least 10 years of related experience in recycling operations.
  • Important demonstrated skills include:
    •  Recycling facility safety knowledge.
    • Project management experience
    • Communication experience with all levels of an organization
  • Demonstrated experience in writing professional documentation for reporting purposes.
  • Willingness to travel 50% of the time throughout North America
  • Able to negotiate with incoming material customers and outgoing material vendors.
  • Demonstrated experience driving performance improvements.
  • Strong market knowledge and commercial awareness of the changes occurring in the recycling and related industries, as well as best practices.
  • Ability to communicate information and influence key stakeholders at all levels.
  • Excellent analytical, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills
