The Reliability Engineer has ongoing duties related to maintenance data and processes. However, with much of that data and most of those processes currently lacking, the initial demands of this role will center on implementing maintenance and reliability processes and collecting quality data. These implementations will stretch across the PM business and are expected to continue for the next 5 years, with a slow transition to steady state role activities as Materion matures in its Maintenance Excellence Program.
In a mature maintenance steady state environment, the Reliability Engineer originates and develops analysis methods to determine reliability of components, equipment and processes. Specifically, acquiring and analyzing data, preparing diagrams/charts/drawings/reports to define reliability problems and making recommendations for improvements. The Reliability Engineer conducts analysis of reliability problems and investigates to determine the required reliability approach for the particular situation, with consideration given to cost limitations for equipment uptime/downtime, repair/replacement costs and weight, size and availability of materials/equipment. Determines cost advantages of alternatives and develops action plans that comply with internal/external customer demands for reliable processes/equipment to avoid failures.
