Position Overview:

The Remediation Manager will be responsible for managing Motiva's remediation liabilities which include retail sites, terminals, and manufacturing sites. The remediation manager reports directly to the Corporate HSSE Director.

  • Areas the role supports
    • Soil and groundwater remediation and risk-based closure
    • Consultant selection and management
    • RCRA compliance and permitting
    • Negotiation with State and Federal Agencies, site owners and operators
    • Due diligence for new Joint Ventures, Acquisitions, or other third party transaction.
    • HSSE Auditing
    • Residual management and 3rd party facility approval
    • Development of Corporate Standards for HSSE
    • Industry Associations and workgroups for waste and water related issues

Responsibilities:
  • Interface with regulatory agencies as required to support permit negotiation and remedial strategy
  • Engage project teams to ensure health and safety, environmental protectiveness remain a core value
  • Manage and support soil and groundwater remedial projects, including strategy development, data review and management, contract management and progress reviews
  • Provide guidance and support for environmental projects at the Port Arthur Manufacturing Complex
  • Support environmental compliance by participating in regulatory compliance audits, facility self-assessments and training
  • Manage legacy RCRA compliance at Delaware City Refinery including implementation of Community Engagement Plan and development of Corrective Measures Study
  • Manage legacy portfolio for Star Enterprises and drive sites to closure
  • Manage remediation coordinator and provide guidance and technical support on legacy retail and terminal portfolio
  • Support residual management by identifying opportunities for reuse and recycle, and auditing facilities per Motiva corporate standard, working with residual management specialist
  • Provide timely due diligence support to assess risk and potential environmental costs associated with acquisitions under evaluation
  • Actively participate in API committees/subcommittees to stay abreast of regulatory developments and technical innovations
  • Travel is required as much as 40% of the time.

Experience and Qualifications Required:

Basic Qualifications:
  • 4-year college degree in engineering, environmental or earth sciences
  • Licensed environmental professional or professional engineer
  • Minimum 15 years environmental experience
  • Experience in remediation at refinery, petrochemical and terminal locations
  • Experience in RCRA corrective action
  • Good communication skills, written and oral
  • Proficient in developing persuasive presentations
  • Proficient in Microsoft software package

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in environmental, engineering or earth sciences
  • Operational and/or regulatory compliance support for refining, petrochemical, pipeline, terminals and retail operations
  • Experience with implementation of innovative remedial and risk-based strategies to accelerate path to closure
  • Experience in developing Corrective Measures Studies
  • Experience with demonstrating the effectiveness of monitored natural attenuation
  • Analytical data base management for RCRA, CERCLA and TRRP
  • Track record of collaboration with stakeholders and coworkers, building diverse teams to implement remediation and permitting strategies
