INTRODUCTION

The University of Connecticut Department of Physiology and Neurobiology at the University of Connecticut, Storrs is pleased to invite applications for a full-time Research Assistant 1 to join a research laboratory that uses electron microscopy and other neuroanatomical methods to study learning and memory. The Research Assistant 1 will perform experiments under supervision using techniques including histology, immunohistochemistry, and imaging with brightfield, fluorescence, and electron microscopy. Tasks include reagent preparation, histological processing and staining of brain tissue samples, and stereotaxic surgery. In addition, the Research Assistant 1 will assist with laboratory management, including record keeping, ordering supplies and reagents, and administrative tasks. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A Bachelor's degree in neuroscience, biochemistry, biology, chemistry, or a related discipline. Excellent fine motor skills and visual acuity (corrected or uncorrected), experience with reagent preparation including calculating molarity and testing pH, familiarity with laboratory safety procedures, meticulous attention to detail, and proficiency with MS Excel are required.  

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Experience with immunohistochemistry, histological staining, and handling of laboratory animals preferred

APPOINTMENT TERMS

This is a full-time, 12-month position with an anticipated start date of 7/30/2021. This position is subject to annual renewal, contingent on satisfactory performance and budget funding.
