Position Specific Summary:

To conduct molecular epidemiologic research activities for the Reproductive Molecular Epidemiology Research and Education Program (RMEREP).

Research

  • Coordinate multiple Program research projects.
  • Adapt and perform protocols from the literature.
  • Critically review literature, as requested
Conduct Experiments
  • Conduct molecular epidemiologic research as outlined in research protocols and assure fidelity to protocols; assist with design and modification of protocols.
  • Participate in quality control efforts and implementation of ongoing technical and operational changes.
  • Maintain confidentiality of data collected.
Collect, Analyze and Summarize Data; Prepare Reports; Contribute to Manuscripts, Publications
  • Coordinate data collection for molecular epidemiologic projects.
  • Perform statistical analysis of data.
  • Contribute to research projects as evidenced by documented recognition in publications as an author or for technical assistance.
Administrative and Project Management
  • Prepare progress reports.
  • Contribute to preparing and renewing IRB or equivalent protocol submissions.
  • Follow guidelines and maintain required documentation in support of safety programs.
Facilities and Equipment Management
  • Assist with managing equipment and facilities.
  • Monitor environmental risks.
  • Assist with testing new equipment and troubleshooting to resolve complex equipment failures and repairs.
Supervision/Staffing
  • Provide ongoing training on basic and new lab techniques and protocols for Program staff, as needed.
  • Assist with ensuring Program staff compliance with UI policies and procedures.
Collaborate with all program staff to create and maintain a high-quality research program.

Required Qualifications
  • Requires a bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience in epidemiology or human health science or basic science.
  • 1-3 years of research project management experience.
  • Demonstrated laboratory experience in molecular biology, genetics, or other basic science.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to function independently.
  • Experience with word processing, spreadsheet, presentation, and database software, including proficiency with the Microsoft Office software suite.
Highly Desirable Qualifications
  • A background in epidemiologic research.
  • Experience with development and submission of IRB applications.
  • Experience preparing manuscripts and documents of a technical and scientific nature.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access, and/or PowerPoint.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience with supervising/managing research staff.
  • Experience conducting statistical data analysis, including using SAS.
  • Knowledge of University policies, procedures, and regulations.
