SUMMARY:

Our Research Farm Supervisor provides the oversight necessary to successfully implement and complete turkey nutrition trials. This is a working supervisor position that requires assistance with building preparation, daily care of turkeys, manure management, farm cleanliness, record keeping and data analysis.

These duties and responsibilities involve 3 key areas:

1 - Assure all turkeys receive proper daily care and that all animal welfare guidelines are followed.

  • Brooder and finisher buildings are properly prepared for poult placement.
  • Daily chores are completed early each morning. This includes cleaning water stations and when necessary trial pens. Feed and water must always be available and adjusted to the correct height.
  • Proper maintenance and monitoring of environmental conditions.
  • Monitor turkey health and well-being.
  • At the completion of each trial assist with the complete cleaning and disinfection, of equipment and/or building

2 - Assure that all data is properly collected, secure and not compromised in any way.
  • Obtain weekly turkey weights
  • Determine weekly feed consumption
  • Record and account for daily mortality
  • Data input and distribution

3 - Assure that the research farm is clean and in a presentable condition at all times.
  • Buildings and Equipment in good repair.
  • Grounds are clean and well maintained
  • Be "5-S" compliant

Additional duties and responsibilities:
  • Assist in scheduling and developing research protocols as directed by the Turkey Research Committee.
  • Work with and communicate with poult suppliers, consulting nutritionists (diet formulations), feed mills (feed orders), company accountants/data analysts, and the Turkey Research Committee.
  • Complete night checks when required.
  • Complete all Preventative Maintenance requests (PM's).
  • Keep track of and order supplies as needed
  • Maintain and keep accurate records
  • Supervise and have a good working relationship with hourly employee(s).
  • Position will also from time to time meet with allied industry to gain insight to future research opportunities.
  • Other responsibilities and assignments as directed.

Requirements:
  • High School or GED required, Bachelor of Science degree is a plus.
  • Animal/poultry handling and care experience is a plus.
  • Experience or exposure to animal/poultry research is a plus.
  • Although this is an 8 Hour Shift, Monday-Friday, hours must be flexible including some minimal time on evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Must be able to understand written and oral communications and communicate effectively with others.
  • Have good math, reasoning and decision-making skills.
  • Must be able to plan, close attention to detail and be well organized.
  • Must be able to lift and move at least 75 pounds.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to maintain a high level of attendance.
