As the Research Scientist, you will be an innovator with broad and comprehensive knowledge applicable across disciplines; primary responsibilities include scholarship, project management, proposal writing, data analysis, collection. You will develop fundable research programs and write grant applications to secure funding, and you will participate as a member of an interdisciplinary social science team on a variety of research projects.

Serving as principal investigator or co-principal investigator, you will provide supervision and direction to project teams on deliverables and deadlines and manage related budgets. Other duties will include writing and collaborating with other researchers on manuscripts, abstracts, and other publications of findings in addition to managing compliance, budgets and communications with external stakeholders.

The specific focus within this broad field is open, and applicants with disability policy expertise in areas such as health, poverty, community-living policy, employment, housing, civil rights, and intersectionality are welcome to apply. The Lurie Institute for Disability Policy at Brandeis University's Heller School leads research that helps shape policies, programs and practices which improve the lives of people with disabilities across the lifespan. Key Responsibilities:

  • Forms project teams and may serve as principal investigator or co-principal investigator in addition to project manager on independent research studies. Devises optimal approaches to meet scope of work and ensure timely high-quality submissions and deliverables. Conceptualizes and oversees complex data synthesis, regression analysis, modeling, etc.
  • Develops proposals and budgets for research projects. Has accountability for securing new grants and growing funding base for projects. Collaborates to prepare grant submission materials.
  • May author and/or co-author a wide variety of reports, papers and presentations; typically, co- authors peer reviewed papers; presents and publishes findings.
  • Provides day-to-day direction to regular research staff and student workers on assigned projects. May have full managerial responsibility.
  • Serves as liaison with key partners, stakeholders, subcontractors and other key outside personnel.
  • Performs other assignments as needed.

Education, Work Experience, and Additional Information:

PhD and at least 3 years research experience, including as PI or co-PI, and 3 or more publications. 3+ years supervisory experience

Ability to act as project director for major research center, coordinating internal and external parties and deadlines

Ability to represent Brandeis and The Lurie Institute at research conferences; communications events
