About the Department

The Section of Hematology/Oncology has a proud and long tradition of excellence in research-based patient care and clinical discovery. Ranked among the finest cancer programs in the country, the Section is comprised of nationally and internationally known faculty with expertise in all major types of malignancies, blood disorders, and experimental therapies.

Job Summary

The Research Technician will be tasked with broadly supporting the laboratory through close collaboration with the PI, postdoctoral fellows, graduate student(s) and laboratory manager within the Section of Hematology/Oncology in the Department of Medicine.

Responsibilities

  • Work with prostate cancer cell lines and animal models and, under the supervision of PI or postdoctoral fellow, will carry out various in vitro and in vivo experiments.
  • Collect and process patient derived material for downstream analysis.
  • Cell culture and in vitro experiments including, but not limited to, Western immunoblot, RNA isolation and qRT-PCR, cell line transfection and infection, proliferation assays.
  • Work with others in the lab on in vivo tumor progression studies.
  • Collect and process patient blood or tissues and extracting cancer cells for analysis.
  • Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.
  • Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

  • Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or related field.

Experience:
  • Relevant research experience.

  • Basic computer skills (including Microsoft Office).
  • Knowledge of research techniques and methods.
  • Ability to work with little direct oversight.
  • Ability to work within a larger research team.
  • Attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
