Job Summary:

The Manager Pharmacy shall plan, organize, and supervise all pharmaceutical and financial activities occurring in his/her respective pharmacy, Such proceedings shall comply with the policies and procedures established by the WellStar Health System, federal, state and local laws governing the practice of pharmacy, and the rules and standards established by the regulatory agencies (JACHO, Medicare, etc.) involved in provision of health care. The Manager Pharmacy reports to the Director of Pharmacy.

Core Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
Training Performance Management (Development):
- Maintains and enhances current knowledge and skills related to pharmacy and healthcare by reading pharmacy related journals, company publications, and communications. Maintains awareness of developments in retail and management and pursues best practices that would enhance performance and business acumen.
- Obtains necessary certifications, education credits, and training such as WellStar Organizational Learning modules as required by the Company.
- Seeks professional development by monitoring one's performance, solicits for constructive feedback, and leverages direct reports, peers and WellStar executive leadership as mentors and coaches.
- Collaborates with the Executive Director of WellStar Pharmacy Network and facility HR team concerning pharmacy staff hiring and carries out discipline and termination as necessary.
- Partners with Executive Director of WellStar Pharmacy Network and facility HR team to establish expectations and goals while promoting teamwork. Monitors and recognizes pharmacy employee progress while fostering a shared vision. Optimizes customer experience through focused coaching and performance behaviors.
- Manages pharmacy staff performance by conducting formal performance reviews, oversees and ensures the training of pharmacy employees (e.g., using the correct processes and tools to drive efficiency in the pharmacy, leading and driving technician tasks and activities). Ensures compliance with employment laws and departmental policies procedures.
- Identifies and develops high potential team members and collaborates with the Executive Director of WellStar Network to proactively managing career progression.
- Addresses employee relations concerns and maintains morale by checking on employee welfare, addressing complaints, conflicts and ensures positive employee-management relationship while creating a "great place to work" culture.
- Performs annual review and submit for merit increased for pharmacy personnel (direct reports).
- Supports WellStar initiatives by communicating relevant corporate health and wellness services or strategy information to pharmacy staff. 50% Pharmacy Operations Business Management (Performance):
- Counsels patients and answers their questions regarding usage of medicine, side effects, interactions, contraindications, patient information privacy, generics, less expensive medicines, over-the-counter products, and refers to a medical provider as needed to ensure medication is taken correctly, health needs addressed, and satisfaction with service.
- Performs pharmacist tasks including compounding, drug therapy reviews, verification, and medication management. Reviews, interprets and accurately dispenses prescribed medications when necessitated by the workload.
- Ensures the pharmacy operates in accordance to regulations, company policies and standards. Responsible for establishing procedures that promote the efficient workflow of the pharmacy including overseeing staff scheduling, assigning roles, coordinating activities and soliciting employee suggestions. Responsible for the opening and closing of the pharmacy and shift change and scheduling duties.
- Ensures the use of all elements of their professional judgment in conjunction with state and federal controlled substance laws when filling prescriptions. The Pharmacist has the ultimate responsibility for ensuring that all elements of state and federal laws are present in good faith when dispensing medications to patients.
- Collaborates with the Executive Director of WellStar Pharmacy Network and respective facility leaders to define and develop new strategic business opportunities.
- Maintains current knowledge of information technology associated with pharmacy systems such as EnterpriseRx, registers, interactive communication voice response systems, to provide support to customers as well as pharmacy staff. Proposes and implements enhancements to pharmacy systems to further promote productivity.
- Ensures the accurate processing of insurance claims to resolve customer issues and prevent payment rejections. Follows-up with insurance companies as well as medical providers and conducts or participates in 3rd party audit.
- Follows-up with medical providers' offices to clarify prescribed medications, dosages, refills, interactions and allergies to suggest alternative medications, and answer medical provider questions. Follows-up with medical providers for referral opportunities and support monthly rounding goals.
- Performs retail, clinical, and wellness services such as immunizations, flu shots, diabetes awareness, and other preventive healthcare services.
- Responsible for analyzing performance data including pharmacy financial, customer service, and inventory. Manages pharmacy asset protection activities and oversees inventory management. Reviews KPI's with pharmacy team, and identifies pharmacy performance trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Responsible for reviewing and managing monthly department financial reports to ensure expense control and profit-margin budget goals throughout the fiscal year. If there are discrepancies found, he/she must contact the Accounting department (analyst) to notify of discrepancies and provides information to the Director of Pharmacy concerning significant variances. 25% Customer Experience (Service):
- Engages customers and patients by greeting them and assisting with products and services. Resolves customer issues promptly and answers questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
- Models and shares customer service best practices with all team members to deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience, including interpersonal habits (e.g., greeting, eye contact, courtesy, etc.) and WellStar Health System service traits (e.g., offering help proactively, identifying needs, servicing until satisfied, etc.).
- Develops strong relationships with the most valuable customers by anticipating customer needs and proactively offering services. Leads efforts to enhance the customer experience by increasing focus on healthcare services (e.g., patient consultation, medication management, drug therapy reviews, and perform retail, clinical, or wellness services such as immunizations, flu shots, and diabetes awareness) thereby promoting the shift of the pharmacy role from transactional to interpersonal.
- Participates and assists in community events as requested by the Executive Director or Vice President of Pharmacy Services.

Required Minimum Education:

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited School/College of Pharmacy Required and
PharmD Preferred

Required Minimum License(s) and Certification(s):
All certifications are required upon hire unless otherwise stated.

Additional License(s) and Certification(s):

Required Minimum Experience:
Oriented and knowledgeable in the functions of a retail pharmacy Required and
Worked a minimum of two (2) years in a retail pharmacy. Required and
Worked in a supervisory capacity in a retail pharmacy for a minimum of one (1) year or in a clinical or community setting for a period of two (2) years Required and
General knowledge of retail pharmacy financial systems (responsibility reports, budgetary process, billing programs, etc) Required and
Knowledge of healthcare reimbursement and pharmacy purchasing Required and
Knowledge of the various pharmacy technologies available Required and
Knowledge of computerized pharmacy systems Required and
Knowledge of Federal and State laws and regulatory guidelines governing pharmaceutical practice and the use of controlled substances Required

Required Minimum Skills:
Demonstrated leadership qualities.
Ability to supervise both exempt and non-exempt employees.
Ability to work with other Hospital and System leaders.
Ability to address Medical Staff Leaders on issues pertaining to pharmacy.
Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written).
Strong customer service attitude.
Moderate computer skills (Microsoft Office).
Ability to think/act independently as required by situation - adept at change management.
