Position Summary:

The Community Health Specialists are hourly clinical staff who will provide childbirth education support or lactation consultation education for program activities including but not limited to health fairs, community events and targeted outreach. These staff will provide screening services including taking biometric measurements, implementing screening questionnaires, counseling at-risk individuals and referring eligible participants to evidence-based programs. These staff will also teach health promotion classes including but not limited to: Childbirth, Infant Care, and Breastfeeding. Community Health Specialists will also conduct tours of the maternity services within the hospital as new mothers and fathers prepare for their child's birth. This position reports to the Health Promotion Program Manager.

Education:

• An Associate's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university with an interest in behavioral, community or public health is required.
• A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing is preferred.

Work Experience:

• Experience working in a community setting is preferred.
• Experience working as part of a multi-disciplinary team as well as with people of diverse backgrounds preferred.
• Bilingual in Spanish, Korean, or Chinese preferred, but not required.
• CPR required

Licenses & Certifications:

• Must maintain current Maryland License as an RN or licensure in a compact state that allows practice in Maryland.
• Must obtain CPR certification within sixty (60) days of hire and maintain thereafter.
• Must have valid driver's license, clean driving record, and reliable transportation. This position may spend the majority of the time working away from the office.
