Howard County General Hospital's Adult Emergency Department has 36 beds, 4 fast track beds, and 5 behavioral health beds. Nurse/Patient ratios are 3:1 or 4:1. If you are looking to work in a community hospital ED, that utilizes Team Nursing, with a very stable nursing leadership team, and if you like working in a fast-paced environment, then we might be the right place for you. ER nursing experience is a plus but not required.

Shift:

Full Time Days (36 hours) 7am-7:30pm

Weekends Required

Education/Experience:

1. BSN is preferred for nurses hired prior to July 1, 2016.

2. All nurses hired after July 1, 2016 must:

  • Hold a BSN, or
  • Complete a BSN program within 4 years of their hire date with steady progress toward degree completion. Steady progress is defined as a minimum of 9 credits per calendar year from the time they begin course work. RNs who are not yet enrolled in a BSN program, must apply to and be accepted into a BSN program within six months of hire, with course work to begin promptly after acceptance.

    3. Minimum of one (1) year of experience preferred.

    4. Previous specialty clinical experience preferred for specialty units.

    5. Clinical Nurse I (CN I) - a novice nurse who has completed nursing school and passed the NCLEX; is enrolled in the RN Fellowship program; automatic progression to CN II after 1 year of successful performance post- hire as CN I.

    6. Clinical Nurse II (CN II) - level of entry for a newly hired experienced

    7. Registered Nurse possessing at least one year of RN experience.

    8. Clinical Nurse III (CN III) - voluntary advancement process upon review and approval of application portfolio.

    9. Clinical Nurse IV (CN IV) - voluntary promotion process upon review and approval of application portfolio and successful interview.

    Licensure/Certification:

    1. Current Maryland license as RN at time of hire or licensure in a compact state tat time of hire hat allows practice in Maryland. CPR required.

    2. Must be able to pass all hospital competencies required for the position including but not limited to the following:
  • ACLS required for the following departments: Labor and Delivery (all current Labor and Delivery nurses are to be certified by 2022), ICU, ED, PACU, IMC (SCU), Short Stay (Observation Unit), Cardiac Catheterization (Interventional Cardiovascular lab), Endoscopy, Cardiac Rehab, Infusion Services Clinic, Pulmonary Function.
  • PALS required for the following departments: Pediatric ER, Pediatrics and PACU.
  • NRP required for the following departments: NICU and Labor and Delivery.
  • EFM required for the following departments: Nursery, Maternal Child Unit and Labor and Delivery.

    3. New graduates and inexperienced transfers will have up to 18 months to obtain the appropriate certification. Experienced new hires must obtain the appropriate certification within the first year of employment.

    4. National certification in applicable specialty preferred.
