Description
As a Roadway Asset Management Engineer, you will have the opportunity to directly impact the ability of the Nebraska Department of Transportation (NDOT) to secure an average annual $500M in federal construction funding through timely and accurate submittals of highway inventory and condition data. You will also supervise a diverse and dedicated group of 19 transportation engineers, planners, and analysts working in data collection, reporting and GIS mapping.

Examples of Work
• Lead the Roadway Asset Management section and provide assistance and support to the Division Head.
• Oversee the management and reporting of NDOT pavement, bridge, and ancillary assets.
• Manage the development and DOT wide coordination of the annual Needs Assessment for Director presentation to the Legislature.
• Update and submit the Transportation Asset Management Plan and PM2 Performance Targets.
• Provide supervision and guidance to the Roadway Inventory & Needs Unit.
• Provide supervision and engineering assistance to the Pavement Management & Roadway Condition Unit.
• Provide supervision and guidance to the Cartography Unit.
• Ensure the quality and completeness of portions of the Department's IHI database, data warehouse, and the Materials and Research dashboards.
• Provide improvement and innovation opportunities to streamline and increase accuracy in the above processes.
• Conduct special studies on an as needed basis.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Materials and Research Engineer.
Qualifications / Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and two years of experience performing professional level engineering assignments. Must possess a Professional Engineer (P.E.) license at the time of application and be licensed by the Nebraska Board of Engineers and Architects at time of employment or be able to obtain such license within 90 days of employment.

PREFERRED: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering. Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Civil Engineering. Experience in Asset Management, Transportation Engineering or Transportation Planning. Experience interpreting manuals and construction plans and applying standards, policies and procedures. Experience in NDOT or similar personnel processes; i.e. hiring, discipline, union relations, etc. Experience with GIS applications.

OTHER: Ability to travel overnight. A valid driver's license. Regular and reliable attendance is also required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Knowledge of basic engineering principles related to transportation.
• Strong organizational and public relations skills.
• Ability to communicate effectively to a variety of customers.
• Ability to work independently and lead a team of 20 teammates.
• Ability to prioritize, manage and complete a multitude of tasks accurately and on time.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Programs (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook).
