Schedule: Requires flexibility based on a 24 hour 7 day a week operational schedule

Description:

The Safety Training Assistant will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring that the health and safety of our employees is top priority. Duties will include assisting to complete the robust training requirements for the locations in DC, Landover, and White Marsh (both driver training and non driver training). This person will also need to have the ability to anticipate, identify and correct issues involving safety and to work with all levels of employees to implement procedures that will prevent accidents and injuries. The Safety Training assistant will report directly to the training manager, and by extension the safety assistant and Operations Manager. Additional support will also come from the Regional Vice President, and Regional Safety Manager. *Off site training and travel will be required during the initial onboarding process.



Essential Functions:

  • Protect the health and safety of employees and decrease the potential risk of disease, illness, injury and exposures to harmful substances
  • Assist with Behind the Wheel (BTW) training for all new hire drivers
  • Coordinate and assist with full implementation of the driver mentor program
  • Provide leadership and coaching to reduce preventable accidents and inspire drivers to promote a safe work culture
  • Adhere to corporate safety programs and policies and work with team to implement and abide by them
  • Assist with monitoring driver electronic logs for Megabus NE units (Elizabeth, NJ, Westampton, NJ, and Landover, MD) in coordination with Megabus NE Safety network as needed
  • Conduct bi-weekly ride checks
  • Review Samsara incidents and follow-up with drivers on both negative and positive data
  • Assist with annual 19A reviews
  • Assist with location safety meetings and facility inspections
  • Other duties as required or administered by the Training Manager, Safety Assistant, or Operations Manager

Experience:
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) "B" with a "P" endorsement plus any other endorsement needed to accomplish training of drivers. (REQUIRED)
  • Knowledge of FMCSA (Federal Motor Coach Association) safety regulations
  • Good Samsara score
  • No preventable accidents for at least one year
  • A clean MVR will be required
  • Ability to pass and become a 19A certified trainer (after onboarding process)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Proficient computer skills (MS Office, Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) required
  • Flexibility to drive/cover Megabus routes and trips during busy periods as required by the Location Manager
  • Must complete Training the trainer sessions with exceptional recommendation to proceed to full position
  • Pay rate will be commensurate based upon experience

  • Skills Assessment
  • Personal Interview
  • Verification of education and work experience (including certifications and licenses)
  • Review of current MVR (motor vehicle report)
  • Completion of Train the trainer courses in order to become Coach USA certified instructor/trainer
