The University of Iowa is seeking a Senior Business Intelligence (BI) Analyst with proven experience providing BI solutions as well as experience with data modeling, data mart and Data Warehouse (DW) architecture. This individual will have an immediate impact enhancing our campus operational and strategic data informed decision-making. Through this role, you have the opportunity to provide insights that impact policy, practice and outcomes at the University of Iowa working in a team environment to design, develop, and deliver enterprise business intelligence and analytic solutions. The Data, Analytics, & Insights team is comprised of data professionals who analyze large, complex, and disparate datasets to drive business insights and solutions. Their service portfolio includes reporting, business intelligence (BI), and predictive analytics solutions plus BI tools, University Data Warehouse, and campus data portal support. Their solution portfolio spans financial, budget, human resources, research administration, student, and facilities management data domains.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Participate in the BI project planning process to establish business requirements, define deliverables, conduct data analysis, and establish timelines.
  • Manage BI solutions throughout the project lifecycle (analysis, design, implementation, operational support).
  • Collaborate with key functional stakeholders to better understand their business domain, processes and data.
  • Develop visually informative dashboards and customized reports based on business requirements.
  • Design and implement ETL processes to create data pipelines and aggregate data from multiple sources.
Education Requirement:
A Bachelor's degree in STEM or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
Required Qualifications:
  • Experience (typically 1 to 3 years) developing enterprise reporting, business intelligence, and analytics solutions
  • Proven track record of delivering BI projects through the full development lifecycle including requirements gathering, design, development, implementation, and support.
  • Experience with contemporary BI tools (Microsoft, Tableau, IBM, SAP, Qlik, ...)
  • Strong analytical, business process, and design skills
  • Strong verbal, written and presentation communication skills
  • Excellent service orientation and customer relations skills
  • Working proficiency with BI technologies (preferably MS BI stack including SQL, SSIS, SSAS, SSRS or MS Power BI)
Desired Qualifications:
  • Experience working with SSIS (Highly desirable)
  • Knowledge of relational database design, logical data modeling, data warehousing, and relational database management systems preferably Oracle and MS SQL Server
  • Knowledge of data warehousing, business intelligence, and data analytics best practices, methodologies, standards, and architectures
  • Experience working with R or Python
  • Knowledge of industry trends including data mining, visualization, predictive modeling, artificial intelligence, and machine learning
  • Experience in higher education and their associated data landscapes
  • Project management, facilitation, and organizational skills
  • Exposure to a team-oriented work environment
