JOB DESCRIPTION

The Senior Chemist will report directly to Group Leader Product Support at DAP and will have such authority, perform such duties, discharge subject to the authority and direction of the Group Leader Product Support at DAP. You will render services on a full-time basis exclusively to DAP. Your initial responsibilities will include, without limitation, the following:

Responsibilities:

  • Scope, design and execute new product development, product support projects as well as product performance improvement projects;
  • Initiate and Develop cost saving projects including testing procedures, storage and shipping requirements;
  • Design, perform or supervise laboratory testing and analysis. Summarize data per industry standards and internally developed test methods;
  • Evaluate and communicate the results of lab experiments and tests for presentations and written reports;
  • Enter new raw materials and formulation data into the laboratory database systems;
  • Identify new processing procedures and equipment and conduct plant trials to qualify new technology and products;
  • Collaborate with the plant engineers/quality control managers to develop manufacturing capability and procedures for new technology/products;
  • Promote and champion laboratory safety, housekeeping, and preventive maintenance;
  • Evaluate lab equipment and vendors for purchasing lab equipment. Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment as needed.
Requirements:
  • Master or PhD in organic chemistry and/or polymer science-engineering, 5-7 years of R&D experience in field of polyurethane foams, sealant, coatings, paints or related products.
  • A passion for chemistry, science, problem solving, and creativity;
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills;
  • Ability to operate mid-size mixing equipment and various testing equipment;
  • Ability to work with many types of chemicals, both hazardous and non-hazardous;
  • A strong self-motivated work ethic and a keen interest in learning from others.
