Job Description
The Computational Social Science Lab is a new organization for the research initiatives of Duncan Watts, a PIK Professor affiliated with Wharton, SEAS, and Annenberg. The Lab's goal is to bridge among the three aforementioned schools research, teaching, and practice in the rapidly emerging field of computational social science (CSS), and to establish Penn as a global leader and standard setter in CSS. Reporting to the CSSLab's Managing Director, the Senior Communications Specialist covers the Lab's activities for multiple external and internal audiences including faculty, students, alumni, news media, community and professional associations. Implementing the Lab's mission and strategy, the Sr. Communications Specialist will oversee the design and development of a Living Journal, a set of innovative dissemination tools around interactive and continuously updating dashboards. This role works closely with Marketing and Communications colleagues from the Lab's founding schools: SEAS, Annenberg, and Wharton. The Sr. Communications Specialist will serve in a liaison capacity on communications, marketing, event planning and community relations with University Communications, student leadership, professional staff across campus, internal and external organizations. The Sr. Communications Specialist will collaborate with the Lab's researchers and engineers on project documentation, translation of research, and web content, and supervise research assistants involved in these activities.
Required
Bachelor's Degree with 5-7 years of related experience or equivalent combination of
education and experience
Strong oral and written communications skills
Proficiency with data and using data-driven insights to inform areas of focus within
educational and marketing materials
Demonstrated ability to oversee the development of interactive dashboards that unveil
different perspectives of data, including the recruitment and supervision of software
developers
Demonstrated ability to translate social science research and complex information into
understandable reports and publications
Proficiency with online content management, social media, marketing and analytics
Strong customer service orientation, organizational and project management skills, and
attention to detail
Preferred
Familiarity with academic research in computational social science
Familiarity with cloud computing and other tools for data-driven reporting and communication

Salary offers are made based on the candidate's qualifications, experience, skills, and education as they directly relate to the requirements of the position, as well as internal and market factors and grade profile.
