About the role

The Senior Director, Product Safety & Regulations, is responsible for implementing policies and strategies for product safety and regulatory compliance in partnership with Gap Inc.’s portfolio of Brands, International Sourcing teams and Vendors. Oversees research and trend analysis in the global retail safety and regulatory environment impacting Gap Inc. product lines. Develops and drives new strategies to ensure compliance as Brands launch new product categories and enter new markets. The Senior Director leads a team of 4-6 associates US based employees.

  • Monitors US/International regulations and industry standards to ensure that product safety, labeling and marketing standards reflect current requirements.

  • Liaison to domestic and international government regulators to ensure Gap Inc. products adhere to government standards.

    Consults external subject matter experts, industry organizations and independent product testing laboratories.

  • Creates and executes policies for product safety compliance across all product categories.

  • Ensures clear communication to business partners, including guidelines, training sessions and web-based education modules.

  • Engages with 3rd party SME’s and laboratories on setting, benchmarking and validation of Gap Inc policies.

  • Collaborates with cross functional partners on key projects and initiatives.

  • Supports team to resolve product compliance questions that arise during production. Provides risk assessments and regulatory interpretations to enable business decisions.

  • Investigates field reports related to product safety or regulatory compliance; oversees related activities as needed.

  • Leads and develops the team, coaching to build skills and ensuring consistent approaches to problem solving and policy implementation.

Who you are

  • 10-15 years working in a retail, textile or consumer product environment which includes working with government regulators; 5-7 years leadership experience.

  • Proven ability to determine and drive long-term compliance strategy for large consumer product corporations.

  • Demonstrated experience identifying key constituents of the retail industry such as service providers and peer groups to stay abreast of current and future regulations

  • Able to evaluate complex, diverse factors, resolve problems and form policy recommendations.

  • Bachelor’s degree in textiles, engineering or business administration preferred.

  • Ability to Travel (10%)
