We are seeking a Senior Electrochemical Engineer to join our team. This role will provide design and engineering leadership for the development of advanced electrochemical devices and high power density fuel cell stacks and for automotive and industrial applications, in accord with requirements of high performance, long life, and low cost. Primary contact for team to answer questions and direction of assigned projects.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
- Lead research and development projects related to fuel cell electrochemistry (catalysis, corrosion, chemical degradation, etc.)
- Lead and/or monitor collaborative or supplier development initiatives, work with development teams to create material and component specifications
- Design performance and durability test fixtures and protocols. Implement and manage test campaigns (electrochemical materials, cells, and stacks).
- Implement, refine, and customize diagnostic and analytical methods
- Contribute to fuel cell design and system/product development initiatives
Required Job Qualifications (unless otherwise noted):Educational Background
- MS (required) or PhD (preferred) in Chemical, Mechanical, or Electrochemical Engineering MS in Engineering, Management, IT or equivalent technical degree preferred.
Previous Work Experience
- 8+ years development/engineering experience with emphasis on electrochemistry
Special Skills, Experience and Abilities
- Solid grounding in engineering fundamentals: electrochemistry, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, heat & mass transfer, chemical kinetics, and materials.
- Experience with PEM fuel cell design and operating principles
- Theoretical understanding of electrochemical systems and corrosion
- Experience in test planning, laboratory experimentation, and data analysis
- Experience with electrochemical diagnostic methods, including polarization measurement, voltammetry, electronic impedance spectroscopy
- Project management and leadership experience
- Strong and proactive problem solving and troubleshooting abilities
- Experience with analytical chemistry, microscopy, or mechanical characterization
- Ability to create and utilize mathematical models
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
- Ability to work both independently and in team contexts, Comfort with a rapid development pace and ability to multitask, Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills
Physical requirements/Work environment
- Laboratory and office work environments. This position has an emphasis on experimental work and significant time in a laboratory/pilot plant setting is required.
- Ability to lift components weighing up to 35 lbs. is required.
