The Senior Industrial Hygienist (SRIH) participates as a member of the Industrial Hygiene (IH) group. The incumbent will perform and/or manage personnel who will perform industrial hygiene activities including qualitative and quantitative IH/safety surveys, air sampling/monitoring, and noise and indoor air quality surveys. One shall perform industrial hygiene activities including, but not necessarily limited to, conducting air sampling, noise surveys, review of SDSs, and preparation and/or review of site-specific health and safety plans. In performing such duties, the SRIH may serve as a project manager or project technical director, based on project needs and resources. Utilizing knowledge of various scientific disciplines, one may collect, study, report, and take action based on data derived from measurements or observations of air, food, soil, water, and other sources. The successful candidate will apply the scientific methodology for analysis of risk assessments and industrial hygiene applications to ensure the client's expectations are met. A successful candidate will be able to provide training to junior industrial hygienists and environmental scientists as needed. The SRIH shall report to the leader of the IH group and will perform business development activities for regional and national clients while working with the CTEH Sales Team. The SRIH will also serve as an office manager to help facilitate a team environment.

Pay Range: $105,200-$127,500 (commensurate with experience)

ACTIVITIES/TASKS/SCOPE

  • May require travel for project demands at client's request;
  • Perform duties safely to minimize threats to self and others in work settings with potential chemical, physical, biological, and safety hazards;
  • Performance of industrial hygiene activities, including, but not limited to, qualitative and quantitative IH/safety surveys, air sampling/monitoring, noise surveys, review/preparation of SDSs, indoor air quality surveys, and preparation/review of project technical reports;
  • Provide data management and evaluation support to fellow CTEH staff in the areas of IH, toxicology, litigation support, risk assessment, and emergency response;
  • Understand and communicate to staff the basic industrial hygiene concepts of anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling hazards to workers, the general public, and the environment;
  • Solve problems and make accurate and informed decisions regarding IH and safety;
  • Compile, review and summarize scientific/technical data and literature;
  • Support other service areas as assigned;
  • Perform all duties according to the ethics of the IH profession;
  • Demonstrate a professional attitude toward clients, customers, and co-workers which reflects favorably upon the company; and,
  • Perform such other duties as assigned.
OTHER DESIRED COMPETENCIES
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within a matrix reporting structure;
  • Ability to understand and explain the basic industrial hygiene concepts of anticipating, recognizing, evaluating and controlling hazards to workers, the general public, and the environment;
  • Ability to locate and understand the concepts of relevant OSHA regulations, and other occupational health and safety standards and guidelines, including those of the ACGIH, and, with minimal guidance, explain such concepts;
  • Ability to calibrate and operate IH equipment:
  • Ability to explain the concepts of each piece of IH equipment;
  • Ability to select appropriate industrial hygiene testing equipment to meet project needs;
  • Active involvement in the industry and/or professional organizations including conference presentations/proposals;
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems and make accurate and informed decisions;
  • Ability to function as an Emergency Response Team member when needed;
  • Ability to develop and grow a regional location through business development;
  • Directly manage an office that includes multiple departments and personnel;
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal directions; and,
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in the English language.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree (minimum) in industrial hygiene or safety; or,
  • Bachelor's degree in a related science field (chemistry, biology, physics, engineering, toxicology, etc.);
  • 5-10+ years of experience managing IH staff and business development
  • Advanced computer and data management skills in a Windows-based platform.
CERTIFICATION/OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • CIH Certification - Required
  • CSP Certification (preferred, but not required)
  • HAZWOPER Certification - Required (Can be obtained post-hire)
  • DISA clearance - Required (Can be obtained post-hire)
  • TWIC clearance - Required (Can be obtained post-hire)
  • Current driver's license - Required
  • Ability to obtain a passport - Required
  • Completion of all job-specific OSHA training
  • Ability to comply with all job-specific OSHA requirements, including the wear of a respirator

  • Lifting up to 50 pounds several times a day
  • Overhead lifting of over 20 pounds

  • Ability to read effectively from a computer screen, sampling device, and/or a paper copy
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Frequent, unscheduled travel for extended periods of time
  • Rarely may work shifts of up to 24 hours in duration
  • Dress out in physically demanding personal protective equipment (PPE) for site entry at HAZWOPER sites as required under 29CFR 1910.120
  • Wear half-face and full-face air purifying respirator (APR) as well as supplied air respirators in the form of Self Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) and hose supplied respirator with medical clearance as required under 29CFR 1910.134
  • Wear partially or totally encapsulating personal protective equipment

  • Encounter environments presenting physical hazards of uneven ground, standing water, ditches, dusty conditions, rapidly moving transportation and remediation equipment, and physical stress associated with the wear of personal protective equipment;

  • May work in a setting with potential physical and chemical hazards
