Coordinates and participates in other duties, including working backlogs, addressing system problems, and running special reports. Prepares bills for insurance carriers; verifies carrier specifications and ensures correct coding; makes corrections if needed. Makes inquiries of internal departments to verify diagnoses and procedures or obtain correct codes. Initiates adjustment requests with insurance carriers and State or federal agencies, as needed. Investigates and analyzes open accounts, making corrections and requesting adjustments as appropriate. Monitors daily reports for system errors; evaluates billing problems of greater complexity and priority and reports or resolves as appropriate to minimize billing delays. Trains new medical billing clerks in billing and follow-up procedures. Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality assurance programs, safety and compliance standards. Enhances professional growth and development by participating in educational programs, reading current literature, and participating in in-service meetings and workshops. Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department; maintains, distributes, analyzes and projects information for required records, reports and statistics as directed. Attends meetings as required. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Starting salary for this position is $41,515 annually which includes a comprehensive benefits package.
Required Education and Experience
High School diploma or High School Equivalency diploma and the equivalent of two (2) years of full-time experience in medical billing and follow-up procedures or a related field.
Required degrees must have been granted by an accredited college or university or one recognized by Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center as following acceptable educational practices.
The preferred candidate will have experience in a Healthcare setting with 3-5 years of Hospital/Physician medical billing, medical claims processing and follow up, knowledge of medical terminology skills and will be proficient in Microsoft suite.
