Overview

We are seeking a Senior or Lead DevOps Engineer, Emerging Technologies to help us fulfill our mission of helping people achieve education and workplace success. This is a remote position.

The Lead DevOps Engineer is responsible for infrastructure and software deployment automation as well as architecting and implementing the strategy. This position leads a team that works closely with Software Development, QA, Performance, and Security teams to achieve streamlined continuous integration/delivery objectives.

We are looking to fill one position and the level at which the position will be filled is determined by the qualifications of the finalist.

Level differentiators:

  • Senior level requires at least 5 years of progressively responsible IT experience as stated below
  • Lead level requires at least 7 years of progressively responsible IT experience as stated below

Both levels require:
  • Experience with continuous integration/delivery automation tools (Jenkins and/or CircleCI preferred)
  • Experience with infrastructure automation (Terraform preferred)
  • Experience writing automation for at least one cloud-platform (AWS preferred)
  • Experience using software version control (Git and/or Bitbucket preferred)

What you will be working on:
  • Creates roadmaps and stories for deployment and automation
  • Leads others to automate the provisioning of application environments including servers, containers, network, and monitoring
  • Provides direction for software development teams to understand and provision the necessary infrastructure to run their applications
  • Establishes deployment pipelines strategy and implementation
  • Creates reference architecture and steers implantation
  • Analyzes and troubleshoots complex technical problems
  • Guides programmers/developers on technical issues that impact releases, deployment, and delivery
  • Mentors fellow team members and software development teams on DevOps processes and procedures
  • Develops, builds, and designs reusable program elements

This could be the job for you if you have (minimum requirements):
  • Thought leader and subject matter expert on future technologies used for automation and continuous delivery
  • Knowledge of Linux administration
  • Knowledge of relational databases, database tuning, and performance testing
  • Strong programming skills with at least one dynamically typed language such as Python, Perl, or Ruby
  • Understanding of the Agile development methodology
  • Ability to develop and maintain working relationships across teams
  • Good decision making, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Highly autonomous and demonstrated ability to take initiative
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Demonstrated ability to support, mentor, coach and advise team members
  • Results-oriented and able to work across the organization
  • Ability to lead team through changes in a rapidly transforming organization
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or related area required;
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and abilities can be acquired
  • Minimum of five years of progressively responsible IT experience
  • Experience with continuous integration/delivery automation tools (CircleCI) and/or experience with infrastructure automation (Terraform)
  • Experience using AWS Cloud Services
  • Experience with SQL, mySQL, or Postgres
  • Previous experience leading the working across teams and multiple projects - providing work direction, training, guidance, and feedback

It's a plus if you have:
  • Experience with AWS and Terraform
  • Experience using software version control (Git/Bitbucket preferred)
  • Enterprise software development experience
  • Experience with Circle CI or Jenkins
