The Real Estate and Corporate Paralegal is an integral part of the Legal department, working with business and real estate law. This is a full time, onsite role based at our beautiful Corporate Headquarters in downtown Ft. Lauderdale, FL. In this role, you’ll use your exceptional interpersonal and organizational skills to proactively assist attorneys and keep the team informed of commitments and responsibilities. Your keen attention to detail is what helps keep critical legal documents in order, and your ability to work independently is what makes you successful in our fast-paced environment.

 

Organizational Relationships:

Reports directly to the head of AutoNation’s real estate legal team. Interacts with other departments within the organization such as Commercial Real Estate Services, Tax, Accounting/Finance, and Risk Management. Daily interactions with Associates at all levels of both corporate headquarters and local dealerships as well as outside counsel.

 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Assist attorneys in all aspects of commercial real estate transactions through closing and post-closing matters including preparing and reviewing buy/sell contracts, leases and license agreements.
  • Assist with commercial real estate due diligence, including title and survey reviews, title objection letters, lease reviews, municipal lien searches, judgment litigation and lien searches.
  • Help manage the company’s real estate portfolio of approximately 1,000 properties and research characteristics of currently-owned properties as well as previously-owned properties.  
  • Review entity organizational documents and prepare corporate resolutions.
  • Review pro forma title policies and endorsements.
  • Prepare closing checklists, critical dates timelines, closing statements, title and other affidavits, entity authorizations, customary closing documentation, etc.
  • Assist with preparation of documents related to company construction projects.
  • Effectively communicate with, and manage, outside counsel.
  • Adheres to all company policies, procedures and safety standards.

 

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma; Bachelor’s degree and Paralegal Certification preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a Paralegal
  • Experience in a fast-paced, highly confidential environment required
  • Direct legal transactional experience (real estate transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and/or commercial contracts) is a plus
  • Exemplary interpersonal skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with all levels of employees and management, and with outside counsel
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to compose correspondence with minimal direction
  • Must have basic command of Microsoft Office products
  • Exceptional organizational/administrative skills; ability to manage own workload and multitask
  • Highly organized; excellent follow-up skills; able to anticipate needs and demonstrate excellent judgment
  • Proven ability to work in a team environment
  • Must meet company’s requirements for employment

 

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to work in front of a computer for long periods
  • Able to sit for long periods
  • Able to operate standard office equipment
