Senior Quality Engineer

Domtar Paper, the largest integrated manufacturer and marketer of uncoated freesheet paper in North America, has an opening for a Senior Quality Engineer at our Johnsonburg Mill.

Your Role:

TheSenior Quality Engineer utilizes data analysis to assist in root cause for quality complaints, and to identify quality improvement opportunities. This rolereportsto the Quality Manager and is responsible for ensuring the long-term growth and sustainability of Continuous Improvement by equipping the mill with processes, systems, and behaviors to enable mill employees to adapt to the changing business conditions. This role facilitates and leads team efforts to identify key improvement opportunities and develops and implements processes, systems, and behaviors to sustain and grow continuous improvement culture.Thisrole includesbut is not limited to the following:

  • The Senior Quality Engineer will act as a coach, consultant, advisor, organizer, and subject matter expert on Lean, Six Sigma, Change Management, and similar CI tools and concepts at the mill. Serve as a mill resource for continuous improvement projects and tools. Provide training and guidance on use of such tools. Lead site cross-functional continuous improvement team and facilitate meetings for this group.
  • Develop critical data analysis on process improvements and responsible for tracking and reporting lab data trends.
  • Lead Mill Quality Systems by supporting two Quality Technicians whose primary functions includes maintaining two testing labs and grade specifications, investigate customer complaints, providing customers with process data and perform special testing as required.
  • Grade Development: Assist in developing new quality specifications: Review and approve specifications for new grades. Develop additional specifications/guidelines. Ensure current specifications are "customer based." Assist in coordinating Quality Improvement and Grade Development trials: Work with Process Engineers and Production Superintendents on trial plans. Coordinate follow-up with Sales/Marketing Development as required.
  • Build positive relationships with operations & leadership teams. Collaborate on priorities for quality improvements.
  • Serve as the site QIS resource/expert.

REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor of Science in Pulp and Paper or Chemical Engineering with seven years of manufacturing experience
  • Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal relationship skills. Detail oriented, with experience which demonstrates data analysis and analyticalproblem-solvingabilities.
  • Ability to use statistical and graphical tools, including the ability to read, analyze and interpret and act against data, including Pareto, Waterfall, Gantt charts, etc.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft products (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, MS Project, Visio).
  • Experience executing Continuous Improvement Projects and proficiency in use of CI tools.
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams and/or leading departmental teams.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Manufacturing experience in the paper or forest products industry.
  • Experience as a change leader, teaching and coaching front-line operators and other mill leaders.
  • Experience with QIS and PARCView, and Minitab.
