Join our team now at Siemens Healthineers as a Senior Scientist - Point of Care Diagnostics.

We are seeking candidates who are interested in joining our Point of Care Diagnostics (POC) - R&D Assay Development Team. The successful candidate for the position will work individually and with a cross-functional team to develop and sustain systems for in vitro diagnostic (IVD) products for point of care and laboratory medical testing. These devices provide rapid and accurate diagnostic testing for clinical laboratories and point of care clinicians for the diagnosis and monitoring of patients with diabetes, kidney diseases, cardiac conditions, respiratory issues, critical care conditions, and other clinical applications.

This specific position will be hired into Siemens Healthineers POC, in our Mishawaka, Indiana office.

The Role :

  • A Senior Scientist in the POC Assay Development group is a highly technical and specialized role responsible for designing, maintaining, and troubleshooting in-vitro diagnostic products in the Point-of-Care space.
  • The role is highly cross-functional and requires collaboration with clinical, engineering, software, manufacturing and marketing teams in product conceptualization, development and post-market maintenance.
  • This specific role involves direct work in enzymatic, immunochemical, and general chemistry products, and the integration of these assays into complex spectrophotometric and reflectance spectroscopic testing systems and devices.
  • The position requires highly developed and well documented systematic problem-solving skills and multiple, well documented, achievements in this area. Understanding and implementing complex and balanced experimental design and associated statistical methods is essential for success in this role.

The ideal candidate has exposure to and an interest in hybrid systems and proof-of-concept/feasibility of assay systems and will support our Point of Care (POC) diagnostics assay development group. This is a highly technical role supporting several multi-disciplinary teams, working on conceptualization, R&D, and realization of new diagnostic assay formats. You will be involved in developing specifications, concept/system architecture, chemistry and design, and build/testing activities with our scientific and engineering technical functions.

To apply for the role, candidates must meet the following requirements:
  • PhD in Chemistry, Biology or related scientific discipline with biomedical, immunology, or biochemistry experience or similar human health focus. Applicants with a Master's degree with commensurate and specialized professional experience may be considered for this role.
  • Academic course work or professional projects must be focused on biomedical/medical R&D. Preference is given to those with experience with diagnostic test devices (IVDD). A minimum of 5 years of related experience is required.
  • Experience in protein characterization, evaluation, and conjugation is a strong plus. Experience with designing or evaluating lateral flow technologies is a strong plus.
  • Demonstrated leadership potential, either in academic or professional teams
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, specifically technical report writing and presentation of complex ideas and data
  • Ability to work independently and as part of an integrated team handling complex tasks with good problem-solving capabilities.
  • Work Authorization: Permanent work authorization in the U.S. is required.
