Are you passionate about shaping the future of transportation in the bustling heart of New York City? We're seeking a Senior Transit Planner to join a dynamic team of Planners, Engineers, architects, PM/CM professionals to lead projects and new pursuits in Transit Planning Contracts for some of the largest Transportation Agencies in the Northeast. Based in either the NYC or Newark Offices, this 3-day office hybrid role will see you reporting to the Principal Transit Planner and playing a key role in managing projects and developing / supporting other planners.

Your new role

  • Lead transit planning projects and tasks, ensuring project scope, schedule, budget, and quality assurance.
  • Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams on transit-related planning and engineering contracts.
  • Drive transit planning project pursuits, strategically positioning Hays with clients to secure key projects.
  • Expand market share with existing and future clients, including MTA, NYCEDC, PANYNJ, NYCDOT, and NYSDOT.
  • Support the development of our NYC-based planning department staff.

What you'll need to succeed
  • Experience: Successfully delivered transit planning projects (rail and bus), including feasibility studies, alternative analysis, and advanced studies in line with Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Small/New Starts and Federal Rail Administration (FRA) Project Development. Technical proficiency in completing Transit Studies, Modeling of Routes, Schedules and Operations of a Transit System.
  • Leadership: Ability to manage staff, foster professional growth, and provide clear communication and guidance.
  • Client Relationships: Passion for building and maintaining strong client connections through targeted interactions and marketing efforts.
  • Work Experience: Minimum of 8 years in related roles, ideally serving clients in the New York metropolitan area.
  • Certifications: AICP or PE professional certification preferred.
  • Education: A BS Degree and Master's degree in planning or engineering is a plus.
