General Description of Position:

 

Performs all duties involving the triaging, testing, maintaining, and repairing all Voice, Video, and Data equipment to ensure the continuity of service.

Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Assist with Install, maintain, test, and repairs all Central Office digital switching equipment and transmission equipment; including but not limited to the MDF, Genband C20, DMS Peripheral Modules, Experius/A2 Optical systems,MetaSwitch, CIM/UReach Voicemail, and multiplexer equipment by reading and interpreting documentation, specifications and blueprints for all Central Office equipment; utilizing the latest test equipment and hand tools necessary to perform the job.
  • Moderate understanding of SIP protocol and various SIP deployments and equip required to include SBC’s
  • Install, maintain, test, and repairs all transport and transmission equipment; including but not limited to FUJI 4100/4500/7120, Cienna, Nortel 6500 and Huawei DWDM and multiplexer systems
  • Installs, maintain, test, repair all access equipment including but not limited to Calix, Huawei, Adtran and Accedian for FTTH and FTTC deployments
  • Demonstrates moderate knowledge of MEP LAN, PTP and PTMP circuits from 1GB to 100GB in various deployment methods, IP routing and configurations to include Layers 1,2 and 3.
  • Demonstrates moderate understanding of fiber patch panels, connectors and jumper types to include SFP types and range restrictions.
  • Interprets and implements all Central Office related service orders, work orders and trouble reports by communicating effectively with other departments; including but not limited to man/machine interfacing, installation and relocation of equipment, verification of completion of work order.
  • Demonstrates basic knowledge of telephony, digital applications, color code and basic AC/DC theory.
  • Assist with Inspection, maintenance and repairs or has repaired all remote buildings and various miscellaneous equipment such as generators, batteries, and uninterrupted power supply (UPS).
  • Assist and maintain translations of switch for POTS and DBN services including local toll, AMA billing, and CDR.
  • Assist with Turn up and maintains all special circuits such as DDS and Analog data.
  • Tests and may assist other department in running jumpers on MDF.
  • Checks and maintains Central Office isolated ground zone.
  • Generates requested reports dealing with traffic studies, office measures, maintenance work log, and log of all major service outages.
  • Ensures the vehicles, tools and equipment are properly used and kept in good working order; completes the necessary paperwork to request maintenance or repairs.
  • Submits personal time report, gas tickets, material charge outs, as well as other clerical forms or other required paperwork.
  • Maintains all Central Office work areas in a clean and orderly fashion.
  • Schedule and track various Preventative Maintenance activities.

 



Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school graduate.
  • 4-8 years of direct experience
  • Must have knowledge of basic electronics theory/practice.
  • Working knowledge of computers and communication hardware/software.
  • Nortel DMS 100/200 switching translations experience required, as well as familiarity with various test equipment.
  • Working knowledge of Voice Over IP, soft switches, and IAD’s.
  • Reads, understands, interprets, and applies written instructions, such as equipment manuals, in operation and troubleshooting of network operations systems.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with a history of safe driving record.
  • Must be able to work various schedules extended hours.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills required.

 

Additional Qualifications Desired:

  • Experience in maintaining and troubleshooting electronic equipment.
  • Experience in maintaining and troubleshooting DC power plants.
  • Working Knowledge of digital switching equipment including but not limited to Genband C20 and CIM VM Systems.
  • Understanding of optical transport systems and multiplexers.
  • Understand circuit design and functionality.
  • Associate’s degree in Electronics or related field.
  • Basic UNIX/LiNUX knowledge
