SUMMARY

The Senior Merchant will be responsible for managing and growing core and new businesses. This role requires working proactively, and the ability to drive the business. He or she works closely with merchandising, operations, and marketing leaders to lead the development of product assortments, perform consumer trends analyses, manage margins, conduct contract negotiations, track inventory and orders, and collaborate with members of the marketing and ecommerce teams regularly. The principal business outcome for this position is profitable sales through product assortment, product availability, and

competitive pricing.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*

  • Develop, manage, and execute strategic plans for purchases his or her assigned merchandise categories or lines of business
  • Manage high volume accounts and purchase responsibilities
  • Manage purchases and CO-OP collection and attain yearly goals
  • Work collaboratively and cooperatively cross functionally
  • Resolve merchandising issues and balance inventories in area of responsibility by collecting, organizing, interpreting, and reporting financial data to support sound decision making activities; escalate issues as needed
  • Product Lifecycle Management of all inventories. Manage open-to-buy, maintain margin targets, adhere to, and maintain company inventory levels, meet department and individual GMROI metrics to help achieve overall sales and margin objectives.
  • Work closely with Product Development, Logistics, eCommerce, Planning, Pricing, Marketing, and Visual Merchandising teams

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, merchandising, or related field from an accredited program required; additional education in retail merchandising, buying, marketing, and business analytics preferred
  • At least 7+ years as a Buyer, Category Manager, or Senior Merchant level of experience required; closely related work experience may be used as a substitute
  • Ability to work non-traditional hours as needed to respond to urgent needs and business opportunities

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Proficient written/verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Expert ability to work collaboratively with others; conducts working relationships in a manner acceptable to others and to the organization
  • Proficient project planning skills, including the ability to organize, prioritize and control job responsibilities to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, performance driven organization
  • Possess proficient analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office software programs, especially Outlook, Excel, and Word
