POSITION SUMMARY:

Senior R&D Chemist is a hands-on chemist responsible for the development of concrete construction chemicals and epoxy resin products. Specific product areas are placement, repair, decorative, protective and corrective treatment of concrete and masonry as well as improvement of mortar and concrete properties. Takes the lead in Safety Data Sheet and Technical Data Sheet preparation and laboratory purchasing and inventory.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develops new products to improve product properties from idea placement through life cycle.

• Redesigns and improves existing products.

• Conducts continuous search of new materials, processes, and procedures to enhance DSC capabilities.

• Keeps abreast of industry direction and makes recommendations for R&D strategic direction. • Completes special studies as required.

• Supports manufacturing plants by sourcing and evaluating raw materials, developing QC specs, and suggesting process improvements in close interaction with production and QC.

• Supports Sales, Marketing, Product Management and Technical Services by developing test data internally and in coordination with independent labs for literature and claim investigation.

• Purchases and maintains laboratory equipment and supplies.

• Runs the SDS preparation software.

• Works with Technical Services and outside partners to complete and maintain Technical Data Sheets.

• Promotes and follows Dayton policies by setting an example for all fellow workers to follow. Critical Competencies: • Understands chemical processes to suggest manufacturing improvements.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science or other relevant scientific/engineering discipline. Master's degree is preferred. • Excellent technical, conceptual and product development economics skills. • Commitment to continuous education by attending appropriate seminars and classes.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: • At least 8 years of experience in research and development of construction chemicals such as Bond Breakers, Form Releases, Coatings, Floor Treatments, Waterproofing, Curing and Sealing compounds, Concrete and cement and epoxy or other resin systems. • Microsoft Office skills. • Analytical skills. • Operating equipment common to construction chemicals industry.
