Position Summary

The success of our R&D Software team has inspired a progressive, Remote-First work model. This format allows our staff the benefits of a primary, work from home-office in one of four HUB locations, as well as, the value of collaborative engagement. When meaningful & purposeful opportunities occur, our Remote-First teams may gather in-person at hub locations (Pacific Northwest, Pacific Southwest, Midwest and Texas).

Dexcom's R&D Data Platform Team is currently seeking a Staff DevOps Engineer to join our team based in San Diego, CA. The DevOps team is charge of defining and implementing world class DevOps practices to enable the R&D Engineering organization to rapidly release new features and enhancements. The primary focus of this role will be partnering with the software development teams to automate their build and deployment pipelines with a self-service mindset across multiple cloud regions globally.

This is a role that requires strong technical leadership guiding junior DevOps engineers and partnering with the overall organization to drive the implementation of best DevOps practices and define strategy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor junior to midlevel engineers
  • Help drive technical strategy for DevOps
  • Partner with product development leaders to prioritize initiatives
  • Participate and help drive team's planning sessions
  • Design and implement automation and tooling solutions

Required Qualifications
  • Expertise in the SDLC process leveraging CICD best practices
  • Proven track record partnering with development teams to drive a DevOps culture across an organization
  • A solid understanding of containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Extensive Cloud experience (Azure, GCP, or AWS)
  • Ability to write maintainable code using python or similar
  • Self-motivated and able to collaborate with a diverse set of people from many disciplines
  • Ability to lead when appropriate and step back when necessary to help teams through triages, issues, and hard decisions
  • Strong understanding of computer science fundamentals and software engineering principles and processes
  • Eager to collaborate, learn and share with the team
  • Excellent verbal communication skills.
  • Good problem-solving skills.

  • Expert understanding of development SDLC
  • Familiar with Github Actions
  • Cloud experience using GCP
  • Experience using Artifactory
  • Experience implementing security tooling
  • Experience implementing Cloud FinOps methodology

Functional Description

Design, implement and operate GCP cloud infrastructure, application build/deploy automation pipelines and service configuration lifecycle. Build IaaS capability through customized code automating all aspects of build and integration with custom, in-house developed CGM platform components. Research, design and integrate cloud infrastructure in conjunction with application build/deploy pipelines. Use latest industry standard build and test automation tooling to develop and validate deployment integrity and operational reliability of both cloud infrastructure and applications. Automate the deployment and maintenance of observability tools (monitoring) and strategies to drive industry leading visibility and health of the CGM platform. Support teams to define and document SLO's and KPI's for accurate and timely alerting of CGM Platform availability issues. Collaborate across technical teams to create RCA reports and implement changes to improve the CGM platform's availability, maintainability, performance, and security. Work with application architects to propose, develop, and implement systemic improvements as applicable.

Experience and Education

  • Typically requires a Bachelors degree in a technical discipline, and a minimum of 8-12 years related experience or Masters degree and 5-7 years equivalent industry experience or a PhD and 2-4 years of experience.
