Job Description

DUTIES:

• Contribute to solutions driving automated analysis of human genetic variation obtained by high-throughput sequencing.
• Develop algorithms and applications deployed in production software for inferring biological knowledge from millions of short reads.
• Optimize and validate application software.
• Contribute to inventing, speeding up, developing, evaluating, recommending, adapting, improving, optimizing, validating, integrating, documenting and supporting analytical solutions.
• Contribute to development and validation of state of the art targeted sequencing assays for Oncology used in clinical and research settings worldwide.
• Work closely with molecular biologists, product managers, program managers and software engineers to build high quality products.
• Develop production-level software for relevant applications.
• Develop prototypes quickly, integrate these methods into production software, and collaborate with key internal and external groups.
• Keep up to date with the latest developments in algorithms for analysis of next-generation sequencing and applications of sequencing, especially for personalized medicine and human health.
• Give internal and external presentations, and keep abreast of the latest developments in genomics.

REQUIREMENTS: Ph.D. in Biological Sciences, Bioinformatics, or related field of study plus 1 year of experience as a Bioinformatics Scientist or experience in any positions in which the required skills can be gained, or a related occupation. Master's degree in Biological Sciences, Bioinformatics, or related field of study plus 4 years of experience as a Bioinformatics Scientist or experience in any positions in which the required skills can be gained, or a related occupation. Required knowledge or experience with:
• Genetics Next-Generation DNA sequencing Algorithms Genomic applications, such as Microbiome analysis, Immune Repertoire, Pharmacogenomics, mapping, or variant calling;
• Developing algorithms for DNA sequencing interpretation;
• Developing production software;
• Preparation of scientific patent applications;
• DNA sequencing technologies, such as Illumina or Ion Torrent;
• Experience building statistical models in complex biological and genomic systems;
• Programming experience on a UNIX platform in relevant languages, such as Python or Java; and
• Experience with Matlab or R.
